China MAY also claim Indian Ocean as its own in future??

you know, with in nine dash line, the area of south china sea is being claimed by china.

To consolidate, it's claim on the territory, china built artificial islands in it.

Now, China claims to enjoy indisputable sovereignty over the South China Sea. Simply by issuing verbal threats, China has been trying to stop any oil and gas exploration activities in the region.

And there are freedom of navigation related issues. China wants other countries to discuss with it and decide the maritime rights.

thus the international water has been effectively converted into disputed territory.

Now coming to Indian Ocean, you can recall, China is steadily working on its string of pearls strategy.
With a clear long term strategy in mind, It has built network of Chinese military and commercial facilities in this region.

Recently China has got 99 years leasing rights on Hambantota port in Sri lanka And it has operationalized Naval base in strategic Djibouti port in horn of Africa.

its evident, China is slowly increasing its dominance in this area.
Please note, as far as pacific ocean is concerned, America has strong alliance with Japan and South Korea there.
but In Indian Ocean region, American presence has been very limited till now.
If expanding Chinese  influence is not balanced, China may end up claiming entire Indian Ocean region as its own.

It wont be difficult for China to dig out some 100 year old historical maps and claim that Indian Ocean is also indisputable Chinese territory, and other countries have to talk to China before doing anything in this region.

To some extent, America has realized this potential threat and started building more strategic relationship with India.
To the discomfort of China, In the month of October, first ever US Sri Lanka naval exercise is going to be carried out.

Friends, If the Indian Ocean region becomes a disputed territory, the biggest loss will be inflicted upon India.

it will be effectively locked and it will have to take care of Chinese position before doing anything in its own back  yard.

Needless to say, Sri Lanka may also end up on losing side in the long run.
Giving priority to its short term developmental needs, Sri lanka took expansive loans from China and now its paying the heavy price.

Pakistan will obviously be happiest country in the world if this happens. in fact China Pakistan Economic Corridor is key project, which will increase Chinese authority in this entire region.

It may take few decades, before any such thing happens, but It cannot be ruled out.

Hence, it becomes urgent need for the democratic nations in this region to collaborate and ensure the dispute free Indian Ocean Region.

India being the biggest country in this region has prominent role to play. If India continue to keep eyes closed, its future generations will end up paying the price.
