Hello Friends, Welcome to
my channel Real Quick Info.
Friends today we will talk about Dragon spacecraft.
This is a free flying spacecraft designed to deliver cargo and people to orbiting destinations like International Space Station.
Dragon made history in 2012, when it became the first commercial spacecraft in history to deliver cargo to the International Space station and safely return cargo to the earth. Previously this feat was achieved only by the government agencies.
Besides delivering cargo, this dragon spacecraft can carry humans as well and its first manned test flight is planned to happen in 2018.
Lets talk about its key parts.
Number 1 is, PRESSURIZED SECTION.
This is also referred as capsule and it can carry cargo and humans into space. The capsule of dragon is re-usable part.
Number 2 is, Trunk.
This supports the spacecraft during launch. Solar arrays are fixed in it. The trunk and solar panel are left in the space when capsule reenter in Earth's atmosphere. Hence trunk and solar panel are not reusable.
Now lets talk about the major achievement associated with the Dragon Spacecraft.
On 3 June 2017 Spacex has re-launched the refurbished Dragon spacecraft which was originally launched and returned to the earth in 2014.
This time this refurbished spacecraft spent about a month at the station, where astronauts unloaded its payload.
on 3 July 2017 Dragon capsule decoupled from the International Space Station and with in few hours it landed in Pacific ocean.
Hence SpaceX became first ever company to re-use the spacecraft.
Earlier spacecraft were meant for one time usage and disposal.
With this re-use SpaceX will be saving a lot of money and this cost saving will eventually be passed to customers in terms of lower launch cost.
We hope SpaceX will continue to make progress in this project and make space travel affordable for the humanity.
