Hello Friends, Welcome to my channel Real Quick Info.
Recently, there has been shutdown in Kashmir Valley in support of Article 35 A.
The question is why people of Kashmir support this. the reason is rather simple, they have been biggest beneficiaries of this special article.
They have exclusive right to buy immovable assets, get jobs and scholarships in the state of J&K.
This is not to suggest that They are fine with the change in demography of Kashmir, with the removal of article 35 A.
They can take benefits from India but All Indian citizens can not take advantage from Jammu and Kashmir. This can hardly be justified.
Lets talk about one recent experience.
When GST was implemented and there was separatist call not to allow GST implementation in Jammu and Kashmir.
Still profit and loss calculation won over the desires to remain special state. Hence GST was implemented.
Similarly, they will support article 35 A, as long as they have belief that its existence is beneficial for them.
You know, People of Kashmir want to protect special status. After all they are most vocal about it.
Lets ask uncomfortable question , what people of Jammu and Ladak want?
After all Kashmir valley alone doesn't represent the entire state.
In fact article 35 A is the last barrier in between J&K and rest of the country. One of the reasons of its formulation was to protect the cultural and demographic identity of J&K state.
Lets be direct, there was fear from Hindu majority in Indian state.
But What about the minority Hindus in Jammu and Buddhist in Ladhak?
People of Kashmir continue to migrate into Jammu region, but people from Jammu have not been allowed to go northward. Thus constant change in the demographics of Jammu is undergoing.
Along with this, There have been attempts to undermine the cultural and linguistic identities of minorities in Jammu and Kashmir.
Carrying forward the policy of majoritarianism, the social, financial and political support has been provided to only one community in the state.
Hence In comparison to the unfounded fear Kashmir Majority has against Indian Majority. The same kind of fear is very real among the minorities of Jammu and Kashmir from the majority of the state .
Hence, No one in Kashmir has any right to say that they are afraid of losing their cultural and demographic identity if article 35A is removed.
This is simply the politics of exclusion and protecting the existing financial rights.
Talking about economics, there is a possibility, after article 35 A is removed. with Real integration with Indian economy, state of Jammu and Kasmir may end up growing much faster.
There will be more job opportunities since Investment from across the country may start flowing there in.
Above all, people of Kashmir will start feeling themselves being part of Indian mainstream.
Hence just like GST, the principles of economics should win here. Discarding decade old fear of Majority Vs Minority, they should allow state of Jammu and Kashmir be like any other Indian state.
Lets be sure, India is secular country and it will remain so forever.
