- Friends, we have heard a lot about the Chinese Belt and Road initiative. Sometimes you might have wondered Why India does not come up with new projects of global significance.

- Today we will discuss about Asia Africa Growth Corridor. The idea for this corridor was conceived during a meeting in between Modi and Japan's Prime minister Abe in November 2016.

- The objective of this project is to create a free and open Indo-Pacific region, by rediscovering ancient sea-routes and creating new sea corridors.

- This year in May, During a meeting of African Development Bank Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented a grand vision for this maritime corridor, for better integration of South Asia Southeast Asia ad East Asia with, Africa Australia and Pacific islands.

- As part of this project, There will be  a series of sea routes which will connect cities and other production hubs across the indo pacific region, that are predicted to rise and become the world's next epicenters of economic growth.

- For example, this project will connect, Jamnagar (Gujarat) with Djibouti in the Gulf of Eden, the ports of Mombasa and Zanzibar will be connected to ports near Madurai, Kolkata will be linked to Sittwe port in Myanmar.

- This project is jointly led by India and Japan. Interestingly both of these countries have so far not joined the Chinese Belt and Road initiative.

- Chinese influence in Africa has increased with 20% annual growth rate. Asia Africa Growth Corridor will provide the counter balance to China in African region. However Fact remains, Japan and Indian partnership is lagging behind China in this region as of now.

- This corridor project appears to be the joint Indo Japan reaction to Chinese Belt and road initiative because of extensive geographic overlap with the route of Chinese Belt and Road initiative.

- China is obviously getting concerned about this initiative. True to its bullying nature,  Now china wants Asia Africa Growth Corridor to complement the Belt and Road initiative. China wants everyone in the Indo Pacific region to accept its leadership and form a united force to support its Belt and Road initiative.

- At the same time, China warns India to Think carefully about this project and not to become over assertive in the region.

- One thing if you have noticed, this project has been in works for quite a few months, finally China has to take a note of it.

-  Unlike Belt and Road Initiative, Asia Africa Growth Corridor ensures the respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of participating countries. It’s not a  vision of one country, being blindly followed by other countries. It’s not like all countries are sacrificing their interests for the benefit of only one country.

- China must understand that all nations have right to pursue the path of development in their own way. World is big enough to meet aspirations of all.
- Its rather pleasing that India and Japan are deepening the relationship for the growth peace and prosperity in the region.

- The last point is As much as India and Japan. China is also responsible that Belt and Road Initiative, and Asia Africa Growth Corridor complement each other. Cooperation has always been a bi directional road.
