Friends,Amid Doklam standoff, I daily read the comments on social media from fellow Indian countrymen exuding the confidence about the ability of Indian armed forces to easily Win the war if china wages it against India
-  Amid Chinese war threats, we need to check the real hard facts and decide where we actually stand.
Chinese folks are of course overestimating themselves, we need not repeat their mistake.
- Today, we will talk about the latest Comptroller and Auditor General CAG report on Indian Army's preparedness for fighting a full scale war.
- Despite Narendra Modi being Indian PM for last three years, India has not effectively made any progress whatsoever, to ensure that Indian armed forces have sufficient War Wastage Reserve ammunition for army's Tank and artillery to fight a full scale continuous war for 40 days.
- 55% type of ammunition are not available to fight 20 days intense war.
- There are 40% ammunition for which there is stock for less than 10 days.
- So the bottom line is , Indian army doesn't have the resources to fight a full scale war for 10 days.
- More alarming fact is, there is excessive shortage of Artillery fuzes which is fitted to the shell of ammunition just before firing. In the absence of fuze, 83% of available high caliber ammunition for tanks and artillery  is not in the state of being used in any operation. Yes Its as good as, we don't have 83% of high caliber ammunition.
- The cold fact is staring at our face, India is not at all ready for intense fight with  China and Pakistan simultaneously.

- The reason is simple, domestic production by ordinance factories has not improved output or quality, and pace of defense procurement is painfully very slow.

- Finally showing response to grim situation, Indian government has given Army vice chief the full financial power to procure critical ammunition and spares to maintain an optimum level to fight a short and intense war.
- It will obviously take some more time to ensure that we are really ready for a war. Rather we must  wait for next CAG report to confirm if there has been any improvement after this step.
- The relevant question is, why Indian government took three years to take this logical decision.  Were they waiting for CAG report?

- One of the reasons India lost 1962 war was that Indian armed forces didn't have wherewithal to fight a strong enemy in Himalayas.

- Even during Kargil war, which was a limited conflict, India had to suffer huge number of casualties just because we were not having what it takes to win high altitude war quickly.
- We are no way doubting the capabilities, courage or valor of Indian armed forces. Despite all these gaps, they have always delivered in the battlefield.
- But its duty of each and every Indian citizen to remain vigilant and ask real question about defense preparedness rather than getting carried away with chest thumping and war mongering.
- The current Indian government has taken positive steps, we need efficient and quick execution now.
