Hello Friends, Welcome to my channel Real Quick Info.

You know, Chinese Belt and Road Initiative will result in massive investment of close to $5 Trillion.

The aim of this project is to bridge the infrastructural gap and connect 65 countries.

As per original design of this project, Nepal didn't have access to the infrastructure being built as part of this project.

In May 2017, Nepal signed an agreement to formally become a part of this ambitious chinese project.

Belt and Road Initiative route is now being modified, to provide alternative gateway for Nepal to get access to China Central Asia and Eastern Europe.

Though Nepal joining this project may affect Indian strategic interests yet Indian response to recent developments has been muted. After all, its result of one of the shameful mishandling of Modi regime.

To tell you in brief, Nepal adopted a constitution in September 2015. Due to Indian origin Madhesi protesters, Nepal had to suffer from few months long trade blockade.
There was impression in Nepal that India unofficially imposed this blockade by crippling the supply of fuel cooking gas and medicine.
Caught in such difficult situation, Nepal moved closer towards china with signing agreements to secure sea access via Chinese ports and import petroleum products from china. Hence Nepal broke Indian Monopoly on its fuel supplies and access to sea ports. However Nepal got limited success in this move.

To eliminate the fears of any Indian blockade in future, Nepal participated in Belt and Road Initiative to foster its economic aspirations.

This is clear case of diplomatic failure under Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The way India handled Nepal in 2015, proved to be blessing for china.

Though its true, India had sympathy towards Indian origin Madhesis protesters, who were trying to protect their rights.
Nepal government responded with force and killed over 40 protesters.
As soon as the blockade was imposed by Madhesis, and India let its displeasure be known, the killings dipped.
But the Anti India nationalism sentiments started growing in Nepal.

As a result, Nepal is now trying to counter balance Indian influence by forging closer relationship with China.
Besides Modi government, earlier Indian governments were equally responsible in mishandling the Nepal relationship.

India, which has traditionally enjoyed greater economic and political clout in Nepal, is now faced with  increasing competition from China in recent years.

India should not have any problem if Nepal pursues its national interests.
But Nepal is well advised to get clarity about the real chinese intentions behind this mega project.
Right now, China is following Check Book diplomacy,hence Nepal should avoid falling into Chinese debt trap.
For India, Its very important to learn from this diplomatic communication failure.
In this world, both friends and foes are not permanent . However, friendship with Nepal is worth preserving.
