Hello Friends, I welcome you with a new video on my channel Real Quick Info.
Friends, you know, With the Indian visit of Prime minister of Japan, work is going to start on first ever Indian bullet train project for Mumbai - Ahmedabad route.
However, at the same time, China is carrying out feasibility studies for Chennai - New Delhi and New Delhi - Mumbai routes.
What India has learnt from Doklam standoff, the question is, for these two bigger projects Should India even consider Chinese proposals.
To give you brief background,
Japan's Bullet trains are internationally famous for safety record, there is not even single death in last 50 years of their operation. They are also appreciated for punctuality and low pollution level.
Since 2013, Japan has been trying hard to export this technology but it could not get remarkable success due to fierce competition from China.
As you can guess the simple reason, the cost of building same project with Chinese technology is much lower than the cost with Japanese technology.
The primary reason for the expansive Japanese bullet train is, Japan sells entire system in single package including railways, trains and software needed to run them.
While initial cost is higher for Japanese bullet trains, due to higher quality standards, They require lower repair and maintenance expenses over their entire life cycle.
Just like any consumer, many developing countries have preferred Cheaper Chinese technology to expansive and better Japanese technology.
For Mumbai Ahmdabad route, Japan did the feasibility study and they ended up bagging the contract as well.
In the similar fashion, should India award the Chennai - New Delhi and New Delhi - Mumbai routes to China.
In backdrop of Doklam standoff, India should not straight away award these two project to China at all.
However, keeping dispute aside, India should rather make a commercial decision comparing the life cycle cost of Japanese Versus Chinese technology.
India has synergistic friendly relationship with Japan. But there will be possibility of disputes and war with China in future.
There should be guarantee that China will not use remote software control to stop these bullet train in case of war or dispute.
The control of such project must be 100% in Indian hands. If there is any doubt on this front, No matter how cheap China is selling such technology, India should not go for it.
Such project could not be allowed to be used in threats by China.
Coming to future Bullet trains, India should not even restrict itself to only Japan and China, which ever country is offering the best deal, India should take it.
the idea is simple, India should not limit its options due to past disputes.
China need not worry for being in disadvantageous position after the doklam standoff, if they can offer best Deal, India may select it.
As far as we think, disregarding initial cost, India should prefer Safety and Punctuality of Japanese bullet trains.
What do you think, Should India opt for Chinese bullet trains in future?? Please let us know in comment section below.
