Now Lets discuss about today's topic.
Today, once again China  asked India to join Belt and Road Initiative on voluntary basis, because China believes it will be beneficial to India.
We leave it up to you to decide, if This is a good way to seek co-operation from anyone.

We all know, Indian position with respect to Belt and Road initiative due to China Pakistan Economic corridor.
Interestingly, Karakoram highway, which actually passes through Pakistan occupied Gilgit and Baltistan, which India claims its own, was built in between 1959 and 1979.
Now, China is correct in saying, its now only upgrading the infrastructure built  38 years ago.  When Indian government kept sleeping during those 20 years of Karakoram highway construction, there is no need for India to wake up now, since China Pakistan Corridor goes through same Karakoram Highway.
We all oppose China Pakistan Economic corridor, but we conveniently forget that  we allowed Karakoram Highway construction go unopposed. Had we  woken up and took preventive measures, when it was easier to take such actions, the China Pakistan Economic Corridor might not  have seen the light of day now.

Anyways, today we will cover how China is silently and cleverly making India join Belt and Road initiative.

Less discussed, Bangladesh, China, India and Myanmar BCIM Economic Corridor project is also part of Belt and Road initiative.

This year, China has openly proposed the integration in between BCIM Economic Corridor and China Pakistan Economic Corridor via maritime route. You can easily figure out the benefits of such integration.

You would be surprised, the work on BCIM project started under the great support of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in 2013. We can bet and win, India would have very happily joined Belt and Road Initiative by now, if UPA 3 had been in power right now.

More surprisingly , After three years Annual BCIM join study group meeting once again started in 2017 under Modi regime. While Bangladesh, and Myanmar are ready to start construction work on this corridor project. There is difference of perception in between India and China, which is stopping this project right now.

Now you can conclude, Why China wants India to join Belt and Road initiative, its not about China Pakistan Economic Corridor project. Friends, Its about BCIM Economic Corridor.

The moment construction on BCIM corridor starts, India will no longer be able to oppose China Pakistan Economic corridor. You cannot pick and choose projects from Belt and Road initiative else you will look hypocrite.

As far as we understand, Indian north east region needs development, No doubt about it.

However the point is, Without Chinese support, Sustainable Development can be done. Japan has already shown interest in the development of this region. Now even America looks inclined to join Indian and Japanese efforts.

Hence, we do have better options, there is no need to even continue Joint Study group meetings on BCIM project in future.
So far as Bangladesh and Myanmar are concerned, they appear to prefer only development, rather than how it happens.
If India in collaboration with Japan and America can come up with better proposal, Bangladesh and Myanmar will be more than happy to junk idea of BCIM Economic Corridor.

We are not saying connectivity with China is not needed. It may be economically beneficial in the short term, but not at the cost of long term strategic Indian interests in north eastern region.

If you like to connect the dots, you can easily find relationship in between Doklam standoff and BCIM Economic Corridor as well.

As per your views, should India join Bangladesh China India and Myanmar Economic Corridor, and selectively oppose China Pakistan Economic Corridor? please let us know your views in comment section below.
