Now Lets discuss about today's topic.
With each passing year, India and American relationship is getting stronger. At the same time, Russia looks to move closer to China and Pakistan.
Earlier, its was quite clear that Russia would never sell to China and Pakistan the weapons of same generations that it sells to India.
However, Now a days situation is fast changing. there is genuine Indian concern that its adversaries should not have the same weapons.
What should worry India more that China gets advanced defense technologies from Russia earlier than India does.
For example, Russia has started production of S400 Air Defense System for China and will start delivering in 2018.
In case of India, most optimistic estimate suggests that we will receive S400 Defense system in 2020 only if final contract is signed this year. Its quite possible, we miss this timeline.
We are all aware, The clouds of uncertainty are already hanging over the Indo Russian collaboration project on Fifth Generation Fighter Air crafts.
In the form of Military Drill called Indra 2017, Though India is engaging more with Russia Yet we need to stop any deterioration in the strength of this friendship.
In order to pump new energy in the Indian Russian relationship, we need to look beyond war games and weapon purchase. We need to focus on Economical and infrastructural project, which should be comparable to Chinese Belt and Road Initiative.
In this background, we can recall North–South Transport Corridor project, for which an agreement was signed in between Russia, Iran and India way back in May 2002.
In comparison to traditional routes, this transport corridor will be 30% cheaper and 40% shorter.
the work on this project is moving at snails pace, Yes, there is need to infuse energy at economic and political level.
You know, there are safety concerns related to China Pakistan economic corridor. Significantly, North South corridor doesn't pass through any disputed territory and volatile region, hence it offers safer route connecting central Asia to Arabian sea.
You would agree, if there is any project which can give tough competition to China Pakistan Economic corridor, that's North South transport corridor.
As far as Russia and India are concerned, it will help in elevating the bilateral relations to the level, we have never been before.
On priority basis, this project has to be put on fast track. We need to engage more with Iran, Russia and other central Asian countries to make things moving faster in all directions.
