Now Lets discuss about today's topic.
You might know, after China, Iran's second biggest oil buyer is India.
In the past, India continued to buy oil from Iran despite western sanctions against it.
During Modi Regime, it appeared that relationship got improved in between India and Iran.
We all know, Last year Both countries agreed on Chabahar project, which has been pending since 2003.
But The India-Afghanistan-Iran trilateral agreement for Chabahar is yet to be ratified by the Iranian parliament.
While Indian total oil imports increased by 5.4%. You would be surprised to know, due to payment related issues, Indian oil import from Iran got reduced by 17% in 2017.
Making matter worse for India and Iran friendship, India has recently imported 9.45 Million barrels of oil from the United States of America.
There is quite possibility that Oil import from US has started to grow at the expense of oil import from Iran.
But Iran seem to have quickly learned from this Indian decision and long pending oil payment related issues got resolved during latest US visit of Indian Finance Minister Arun Jaitely.
Indian decision to diversify its oil import made Iran realize that it takes two hands to clap.
Iranian transport minister is also scheduled to visit India soon to take Chabahar project forward.
Given the change in American strategy towards Iran and possibility of new sanctions on it, both India and Iran must realize the sooner both of them complete this strategic port project, the better it will be.
Though India and Iran friendship must be kept independent of American interests, yet India seem to have played its cards really well recently to make Iran realize the basics of friendship.
Interestingly, Iran is opening bid for management of Chabahar port as well. Iran is expecting India to take part in it.
Since, India is about to get two births in Chabar port, As far as we think, Indian firms should try their best shot to get the management rights of this port. We expect, Indian government to play proactive role for this opportunity.
As per Iranian Ambassador, After the defeat of Islamic state, India and Iran can work together on the rebuilding projects in Syria and Iraq.
So far as we know, India is yet to come forward how it wants to contribute in the war torn Syria and Iraq. But yes, collaboration with friends is always a way to go as long as this collaboration is acceptable and beneficial to local people.
In your view, Should India stay away from Syria and Iraq because of threats related to Islamic State? Please let us know your views in comment section below.
