Now Lets discuss about today's topic.
You know, Super carriers are the largest warships ever built.  As of 2017, United States Navy has 11 active super carriers.

Just like other major global powers, India is also  currently designing its first ever super carrier I N S Vishaaal, which will be built by Cochin Shipyard Limited for the Indian Navy.

Indian navy wanted to equip I N S Vishaal with  Catapult Assisted Take-Off Barrier Arrested Recovery system, which  is used for the launch and recovery of aircraft from the deck of super carrier. They have shown interest in the most sophisticated American Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS).

You know, Aircraft carriers have runways of limited length, in 1950 Steam driven catapult have been developed to launch aircraft from shorter runway track of aircraft carrier.

As name suggest, when it is Go time for aircraft, the highly pressurized Steam powered piston  shoots forward, dragging aircraft with it. This way aircraft gains enough speech to leave the deck successfully.

These steam catapult are so powerful that they can accelerate an aircraft from zero to 140 miles per hours in just two freaking seconds.

Steam catapult have been widely used, but this remains old technology suited for normal air craft carriers.
Hence, US firm General Atomics has designed and developed Electromagnetic Aircraft launch system and successfully installed it on US super carrier Gerald R Ford.
Instead of the highly pressurized steam, this system uses electromagnetic field to propel air crafts.

In comparison to steam catapult, light weight and cheaper  Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System can more smoothly launch aircraft, while reducing stress and wear and tear on the air frames themselves.
While it requires less maintenance, It does have critical launch reliability, Yes it will work each time, the button is pressed.
This digital system can be precisely programmed to launch heavier or lighter aircraft .

Please note, China is also trying hard to make this system work.

In this backdrop, its obvious for India to must have super carrier I N S Vishaal equipped with latest  Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System.

Just week Before the first visit of US secretary of state Rex Tillerson, United states has decided to release its most sophisticated system for Indian Navy's future aircraft carriers.

Therefore, now it is possible that Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System could be produced in India with the assistance of General Atomics, which is already planning to open an office in Delhi to support the Indian government's military requirements.

Please recall, Guardian drones are also produced by General Atomics and their Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System is capable to launch Drones as well.

This decision from Trump administration will help India to put Super Carrier design and development on fast track.

Already delayed, I N S Vishaal is likely to enter in to service in early 2030.  This  American decision will help in completing the project in time.

In Indian ocean region, Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System equipped super carriers will hugely improve Indian naval strength.
Such closer defense collaboration in between US and India will ensure that freedom of navigation, peace and prosperity continue to stay in Indo pacific region.

It would have taken long time, huge money and efforts to build such system from the scratch in India, Since America has already spent billions of Dollars on this project, it makes sense for them to sell this technology to strategic friend  India.
For now, this decision created very good atmosphere for the Visit of US Secretary of state.

So far as China and Pakistan are concerned, they can only be envious of this friendship. Let them worry for now, who cares??

In your views, Should India have built Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System on its own, rather than taking American help?? please let us know your viewpoint in comment section below.
