Now Lets discuss about today's topic.
Friends you know, Few days ago American representative to United Nations has commented that India deserves the permanent seat in United Nations security council. Only the problem is, it cannot have veto power because existing five members dont want to share the veto power with new entrant in security council.
You might recall, India, Brazil, Germany and Japan formed a group G 4 to push for reform of the security council including expansion of its permanent and non permanent members.
In this background, one of our esteemed viewers Niraj Limaye has shared his viewpoint with us. On the basis of his views we have created this video. we are thankful to him.
Since Veto power makes the security council an exclusive group, and it is preventing any reform in it. There is an alternative option. the key features are.
First point is - Abolish veto power and allow each permanent member to cast three kind of votes positive, negative and neutral. In this way, security council will be able to take decision in more democratic manner.
Second point is - Increase number of permanent seats from 5 to 9, thus allowing all G 4 countries to become the permanent member of security council.
Third point is - All permanent members must obey each order of International court of justice.
fourth point is - Periodically Rotate United nations office from one permanent member to another. Other members should help in managing such rotation.
This option is one of the many available options which could be placed before the world to make the security council reform possible.
Before that, There is need for better co-ordination among G 4 countries in this regard.
Right now, power of veto has made security council in effective. Hence, No one can deny the need of reforms in it. Only we need to come up with an option, which is acceptable to majority of the world.
Of course, permanent members would not want any dilution in their power, one day they will have to succumb to the power of majority in United nations.
As per your views, is there any other security council reform option?
Please let us know your option in comment section. For this video we have referred a few online articles. you can find their links in the description box below. Friends, we Thank you for watching this video
