Independent State of Papua New Guinea

Hello Friends, welcome to Real Quick Info channel.

Please subscribe our channel and don't forget to click on Bell icon to get notification, as soon as we upload interesting new video about the aspects, which are not covered by Indian main stream media.

Now Lets discuss about today's topic.
Many of us even do not know, there is country named  Independent State of Papua New Guinea. Friends, This is the largest  island nation in pacific ocean.

As part of Act East Policy, India is swiftly reaching out to countries of the extended eastern region, that are very significant but have not been sufficiently engaged yet.

Diplomatic relations between India and the Papua New Guinea  were established, when the latter got independence from Australia in 1975.
However, in the last 4 decades, Indian relations with this natural resource rich country have not improved. Please remember, Papua New Guinea has vast oil and natural gas reserves.
Among the pacific island nations, Fiji remained the center of Indian regional strategy. we some how neglected this friendly country.

However, In April 2016, Indian President Pranab Mukherjee visited Papua Guinea. Though it was first ever visit of any Indian Head of state to Papua Guinea, Indian media simply neglected it.

Please note, Papua Guinea has a key role in India's extended Act East policy, and its gateway for us to have closer cooperation with other pacific island countries.

Now look at this, China is a significant provider of both investments and development aid to Papua New Guinea. Both countries even maintain military relations.

During the visit of Indian president, India offered $100 Million line of credit for the development of infrastructure in Papua New Guinea.

Interestingly, India and Papua New Guinea share views on maritime security, terrorism and piracy. Hence we can surely be strategic ally.

If you take a long term view, India needs to develop capabilities to protect its interests in South China Sea and Pacific ocean.

Ensuring security of maritime trade missions, protecting freedom of navigation, upholding rule of international law and sustainable use of ocean and marine resources are key concerns of these countries.

Interestingly, In order to prepare the common roll for 2022 general election, a team of experts from Papua New Guinea is going to visit India to learn from our election electronic system.  Such collaboration should obviously be extended to other areas as well.

Given that India has entered into logistic pact with Singapore, It would be interesting to explore the possibility of having some sort of understanding with Papua New Guinea in using each others naval infrastructure.

As of now, the focus should be on improving the level of engagement with this very important country.

One of our esteemed viewer K K Dutta has shared his view point about India having logistics pact with Papua New Guinea. Getting inspiration from his views, we have created this video. We are thankful to him.

As far as we think, India need not compete with China every where. More over, if we approach any nation with such attitude, the countries like Papua New Guinea would be hesitant to even come forward.

Hence, we should go beyond just reacting to Chinese strategy. Yes friends, we need to draw bigger line, and forge mutually beneficial and sustainable relationship with Papua New Guinea. Oil and gas exploration and development can be one such promising area.

As per your views, What is the reason of Grand Indian neglect of Papua New Guinea?
