Now Lets discuss about today's topic.
You know, Indian defense ministry has scrapped $500 Million deal to purchase Israeli Spike Anti Tank Guided Missile.
Given that, Over next 20 years, Indian armed forces need around 40000 anti tank guided missiles.
In response to this huge demand, Spike missile deal was only for 8000 Missiles and 300 plus launchers.
So even if, Indian defense ministry finalizes the spike deal, Indian Army would need 32000 more missiles in next 20 years.
While DRDO claims to have completed development of Nag anti tank guided missile.
However, Even after repetitive trials in last seven years, the customer in Indian Army is not satisfied about its combat worthiness to issue production order.
Right now, Indian armed forces use second generation Konkurs and Milan Anti Tank Guided Missiles, which do not have night-fighting capabilities.
Hence, Indian army needs third generation Anti Tank Guided missiles with a strike range of over 2.5 Kilometer with fire and forget capabilities.
Obviously, The Army currently has shortage of these missiles. Alarmingly, no missiles held as War Wastage Reserves to stand at least 10 days of intense fighting.
In order to immediately fill this gap, as per news published in India Today, Indian army has moved a proposal to buy Spike missiles from Israel.
Basically, The Demand of Anti Tank Guided missile is so much that it could be fulfilled by both Israeli Spike missiles and the ones to be produced by DRDO in future.
Lets assume, if we continue to prefer indigenous development over foreign procurement, and Pakistan attacks from the western border. In such case, we may have to go for urgent procurement and buy Spike Missiles and Launchers off the shelf from Israel.
Its obvious, this kind of last minute procurement will shoot up the price, and there will not be possibility of any kind of technology transfer.
Hence, it would be wise to fill this gap in our defense preparedness as soon as possible.
As far as we understand, We need to balance the need for taking care of national security requirements along with the need to promote the indigenous industry.
In response to Israel putting restriction on armed Heron TP drones deals, Indian defense ministry might have taken decision to scrap Spike missile deal.
There is No doubt, in this tit for tat game, ultimate loser is the modernization plan of Indian armed forces.
Hence, we should play wise game and keep the two deals separate.
As per your views, should India not buy Spike Missile to meet our current security requirement?
