इसलिए सवाल यह खड़ा होता है, क्या भारत को इस प्रस्ताव का विरोध करते हुए, दुनिया में अलग-थलग खड़ा होने की स्थिति में आना चाहिए था. कृपया ध्यान दीजिए, संयुक्त राष्ट्र की आमसभा में बड़ी संख्या में देशों के सहयोग की भारत को आवश्यकता रहती है. अगर हम वैश्विक आम सहमति के खिलाफ जाने लगेंगे, दुनिया के देश जरूरत पड़ने पर भारत की स्थिति का भी समर्थन करने में हिच किचा सकते हैं.
साथ ही, संयुक्त राष्ट्र की सुरक्षा परिषद में स्थाई सदस्यता प्राप्त करना भारत का एक सपना रहा है. सुरक्षा परिषद के स्थाई सदस्य भारत को सुरक्षा परिषद में शामिल होने तभी देंगे, जब भारत के पक्ष में आमसभा में जबरदस्त समर्थन का माहौल होगा. संयुक्त राष्ट्र संघ की आम सभा में, हम समर्थन तभी हासिल कर पाएंगे, जब हम दूसरे देशों के पिछलग्गू बने बिना, अंतरराष्ट्रीय नियमों और प्रस्तावों की रक्षा करने के लिए खड़े होते रहेंगे.
भारत और इसराइल अच्छे मित्र हैं, और इस मित्रता में असीम संभावनाएं भी है. यह मित्रता तब तक टिकाऊ बनी रहेगी, जब तक भारत और इसराइल के निजी हितों को हानि ना पहुंचे. हथियारों और प्रौद्योगिकी के दम पर इसराइल ने भारत और चीन के साथ बड़े ही मजबूत संबंध स्थापित कर लिए हैं. वास्तव में चीन और इसराइल के बीच बहुत अच्छे संबंध है. हमें इससे कोई दिक्कत भी नहीं होनी चाहिए. इसलिए मुख्य बिंदु है, कि कौन किस का दोस्त है, इसके दम पर राजनयिक निर्णय नहीं लिए जाते.
इसके अलावा महत्वपूर्ण बात यह है, भारत के कई इस्लामिक देशों के साथ अच्छे संबंध हैं. यह सभी इस्लामिक देश Organization of Islamic cooperation के सदस्य हैं. अगर भारत इस प्रस्ताव का विरोध करता, इस संगठन के सभी सदस्य इस्लामिक देश भारत के इस निर्णय को अच्छी तरह से नहीं लेते. हो सकता है, भविष्य में धर्म पर आधारित काम करते हुए, भारत विरोध में वह मिलकर पाकिस्तान का आगे बढ़कर समर्थन करने लगते. अगर किसी भी हालत में पाकिस्तान की स्थिति मजबूत होती है, तो हमें ऐसा काम बिल्कुल नहीं करना चाहिए.
जहां तक अमेरिका की बात है, तो भले ही अमेरिका के नेता दुनिया के सामने कुछ भी कहते रहे, वास्तव में पाकिस्तान के प्रति उनकी रणनीति में कोई परिवर्तन नहीं आया है. हम सभी को याद हैं, पाकिस्तान से मोलभाव करते हुए अमेरिका ने हाफिज सईद के ऊपर से अंकुश हटा दिया, ताकि पाकिस्तान उन आतंकवादी संगठनों के खिलाफ काम कर सके, जो अफगानिस्तान में अमेरिकी हितों को नुकसान नहीं पहुंचा रहे हैं.

As you know, an emergency united nations general assembly meeting passed a non binding resolution asking America to drop its recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital, as well as its decision to move the American embassy there.
Though India has supported this resolution, yet we have at least expected India to either abstain from voting, or cast no vote.
It was little disappointing for us to notice that India didn't take advantage to change its traditional policy, to have balanced the diplomatic policy with respect to Israel and Palestine.
Rather India failed to show its commitment towards the friendship with Israel and America.
But if you look carefully, This american decision doesn't change effectively any thing on the ground.
Jerusalem has been under Israel authority. Fulfilling his major election campaign promise, united states president has decided to move American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
So this whole issue is related to domestic politics of America and to make Israeli claim over Jerusalem stronger. Moreover, As Trump himself confirmed, his decision doesn't affect any peace negotiations to arrive at final status of Jerusalem in future.
Hence, the question is, should India have taken romantic foreign policy decision to oppose United nations resolution?
Lets be clear, our national interests should always derive our diplomatic choices.
India is a Hindu majority country having favorable opinion about Israel. Having said that, we cannot take a decision, which will be harmful to the interest of entire India.
Moreover, if religion had been major reason determining the diplomatic relationship, India and Nepal would have best bilateral relationship.
More importantly, it was very clear that America would lose in this resolution and they miserably failed to get significant support among world community. In fact, their close allies have supported the resolution.
So far as recent American threats are concerned, America is simply looking for valid excuses to reduce its huge United nations and foreign funding expenditure.
so the question is, does it really make sense for India to explicitly not support the resolution, and being singled out in the entire world community?
Please note, as we have seen, In general assembly, we need support of large number of countries. if we start going against global consensus, other countries will be hesitant to support Indian rightful stand in the future.
Moreover, India has dream to join United Nations security council. Please be aware, these five permanent members will allow India to enter into security council, only when India has overwhelming majority support in General assembly. We will be able to get it only when we stand for international law, rather than becoming blind followers of other countries.
India and Israels are good friends. This friendship has immense potential. but this friendship cannot survive test of time, if it starts harming Indian interests.
Using weapons and technology Israel became friend of both India and China.There is very good bilateral relationship in between Israel and China. Rather, we should not have any issue with it. But the point is, diplomatic choices are rarely affected by who is friend of whom.
More importantly, India has good relationship with many Islamic countries,all of these are member of Organization of Islamic cooperation. If India had gone against this resolution, these friendly Islamic countries would not have taken it positively. In future, religion being the driving factor, they would have more openly supported Pakistan.
Making position of Pakistan stronger would be last thing for India to do.
So far as America is concerned, we have seen recently, keeping aside what is being said in public, there is little change in American policy with respect to Pakistan.
We all remember very well, As bargaining tactic, America has let Hafiz Saeed go off the hook to get Pakistan's support against those terrorist groups harming the American interests in Afghanistan.
Hence, if you do holistic cost benefit analysis, it appears benefits of supporting the resolution far outweighed the cost of opposing the resolution.
