Pakistan and China have finally unveiled the long term cooperation plan for their Economic Corridor project.
Revealing the timelines, The short term projects will be completed by 2020.
Medium projects will be completed by 2025 and long term project by 2030.
Hence, This long term plan is effective at least till year 2030.
This plan covers key cooperation areas like connectivity with a road and rail infrastructure, information network infrastructure, energy, trade and industrial parks, agriculture, poverty alleviation and tourism.
Though time line and cooperation areas are important things to know, yet Significantly, This plan does not give any information about the terms and conditions of Chinese investments and loans.
Understandably, these critically important details are still hidden to prevent public scrutiny.
Anyways, we didn’t expect any important revelation from this so called long term plan. Hence lets discuss recent success of Indian diplomatic efforts at United Nations. This news item has been published in online portal 'The Wire', but it somehow got ignored by our mainstream media, which was naturally occupied with Guj raat assembly election result.
Last year, In two important United Nations resolutions, which were related to promoting culture of peace and inter cultural and inter religious dialogue, Chinese diplomats have successfully inserted the appreciative reference of Chinese Belt and Road initiative.
This time again, when the resolutions were revised, many countries have started asking details on China's financing mechanism and environmental standards, while China was pushing ahead for referential inclusion of its belt and road initiative, for it is promoting the peace and prosperity.
This time, India first started questioning the language of resolution, America and other countries have slowly joined in.
This synchronized questioning is not at all a coincidence, a dedicated team of young Indian diplomats cohesively worked with diplomats of other friendly countries over last couple of months to form a coalition, having broad based understanding of shared objectives.
the result was surprised and ill prepared Chinese diplomats were not in a position to answer these critical questions.
Moreover If they had tried to answer these pointed question, they would have ended up exposing themselves.
In fact, This time India and America led coalition was ready for the full-fledged debate on the merits and demerits of Belt and road initiative.
Realizing the game plan, Chinese decided to run away from the debate. This Chinese retreat led to removal of pro Belt and Road Initiative language from the two resolutions passed by United Nations General Assembly.
Though this is very small incident yet it has big significance. It once again confirms that India can rally around a coalition of partners at global platform to give seriously hard time to China.
Moreover China has itself to blame for this, the way it got 99 years leas of Sri Lankan Southern port, and the way its laying debt trap around other countries including Pakistan, have got global publicity.
And countries have started to realize the hidden Geo political message behind Chinese hard selling of dreams for economic growth.
It would be wise for all countries involved in Belt and Road initiative to reveal all the details so that experts and general public can debate all aspects. If you see, such kind of debate will only ensure the success of this massive Chinese initiative in the long run.
