Majority of us was not at all happy, when India openly supported non binding resolution of United Nations General Assembly, against American decision to recognize Jerusalem as capital of Israel.
As far as we can say, it was tough diplomatic choice to make, given that India and Israel have time tested friendship.
As per independent Indian diplomatic policy, In the Israel and Palestine Conflict, we don't take sides.
But it is quite heartening that Israel seems to have appreciated Indian policy according to which, Indian friendship with Israel, and Indian friendship with Arab countries don't impact each other.
We have always aspired to have good relationship with both Israel and Arabs at the same time. of course We are not playing zero sum game here.
In fact, that level of understanding is required to ensure sustainable Israel and Indian friendship.
In this background, Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu is going to visit India in the mid of next month. We all welcome him and hope for deepening of bilateral engagement in between our two nations.
Given Israel is ready to share its knowledge and capabilities with its frend Namely India.
In the year 2014, Israel has shared a list of possibilities on offering technology that could be integrated into clean Ganga mission.
You very well know, There is world renowned Israeli model of holistic water Management . There is immense scope for us to learn from Israel in this field.
Identifying this opportunity area, Water Management has been put at the top of India Israel co-operation agenda during Prime Minister Modi's last Israel visit.
You might know, Environmental flow is required to maintain the ecological integrity of a river, and the goods and services provided by it.
In order to maintain Environmental flow,Ganga river and surrounding areas have been demarcated into 119 Blocks.
In an interview given to the Telegraph newspaper, Israel’s ambassador to India Daniel Carmon has shown willingness to get one or two of these blocks, where they can implement Israeli technology to show case what it can do in reality.
Promisingly, success of this pilot project will build confidence to scale up this Israeli river management model to rejuvenate entire Ganga river.
More interesting aspect is Israeli desire to work with local Indian partner to share their proven water management technology.
We all know, cleaning the Ganga river is a flagship project of Modi government. for this, they also set up a clean Ganga fund.
Sadly, as per latest Comptroller and Auditor General report, Entire amount of clean Ganga fund has been lying un-utilized in the banks as of March 2017.
After few months, Modi government will be completing four years, but there is effectively no work on the ground so far as cleaning mother Ganga River is concerned.
In the light of this pathetic execution, Israeli offer is worth accepting.
Rather than having one solution for entire river Ganga, and implement that in one shot, it would be good to start with few blocks in the beginning.
Its most likely that Israeli technology will deliver result. Post implementation, we can do analysis and make India specific changes in technology. The idea is simple, lets not have whole river be the enemy of the few blocks of the river.
We sincerely hope, in next Indian visit of Israeli prime minister, we will hear some good news about this. We would like to say, Israeli contribution for cleaning river Ganga will be more appreciated than Israeli contribution in Indian defense area.
