मालदीव के उच्चतम न्यायालय ने अचानक से बड़ा ही चौंकाने वाला आदेश दिया है, जिसके अनुसार भारत के प्रति सकारात्मक रुख अपनाने वाले मालदीव के पूर्व राष्ट्रपति Mohamed Nasheed के खिलाफ दायर आतंकवादी सभी केस निरस्त कर दिए गए हैं, साथ ही विपक्ष के महत्वपूर्ण राजनीतिक नेताओं को जेल से रिहा करने का आदेश भी दिया गया है. उच्चतम न्यायालय के आदेश की मदद से, विपक्ष के 12 सदस्यों की संसद में सदस्यता फिर से बहाल हो गई है. जिससे अचानक से विपक्ष को मालदीव की संसद में स्पष्ट बहुमत प्राप्त हो गया है. इससे भी रोचक बात यह है, राष्ट्रपति Yameen के half brother और मालदीव पर लंबे समय तक शासन करने वाले शक्तिशाली Maumoon Abdul Gayoom  भी विपक्ष में शामिल हो गए हैं. जैसा कि आप समझ सकते हैं, उच्चतम न्यायालय के आदेश के बाद राष्ट्रपति Yameen की सत्तावादी सरकार का अंत निकट आ गया है. लेकिन जैसे ही मालदीव के मुख्य पुलिस आयुक्त ने उच्चतम न्यायालय के ऐतिहासिक आदेश का पालन करने का निर्णय लिया, मालदीव की यामीन सरकार ने उनको निलंबित कर दिया. जिसके बाद सड़कों पर उग्र विरोध प्रदर्शन होने लगे. जिनको काबू में करने के लिए, मालदीप की पुलिस को आंसू गैस के गोले छोड़ने पड़े, और प्रदर्शनकारियों को गिरफ्तार भी करना पड़ा, ताकि प्रदर्शन को नियंत्रित किया जा सके. ऐसा लगता है, राष्ट्रपति यामीन सत्ता में बने रहने की हरसंभव कोशिश करेंगे. पिछले वर्ष जुलाई 2017 में, जब विपक्ष ने राष्ट्रपति के खिलाफ महाभियोग प्रस्ताव लाने का निर्णय लिया, मालदीव की सुरक्षा सेनाओं ने संसद पर ताला लगा दिया. लेकिन उच्चतम न्यायालय के निर्णय के बाद विपक्ष को रोक पाना अब संभव नहीं होगा. राष्ट्रपति यामीन अपनी सरकार के पतन को सिर्फ delay कर सकते हैं. यह देखना रोचक होगा, इस साल के अंत तक मालदीप में स्वतंत्र और निष्पक्ष आम चुनाव होंगे कि नहीं. मालदीप में फैले इस तनाव के दौरान, राष्ट्रपति यामीन की सरकार को बचाने की चीन हर संभव कोशिश करेगा. अगर राष्ट्रपति यामीन की सरकार चली जाती है, मालदीप में चीन के हितों पर बुरा प्रभाव पड़ना निश्चित है. जैसा की आशा की जाती है, भारत सरकार ने सभी पक्षों से उच्चतम न्यायालय के निर्णय का पालन करने का आह्वान किया है. अभी भारत मालदीव के घटनाक्रम पर गंभीरतापूर्वक नजर बनाए हुए है, लेकिन मालदीव के लोगों को तय करना है, कि राष्ट्रपति यामीन उन पर और अधिक समय के लिए शासन करें या ना करें. हम तो यही कहना चाहेंगे, कि हमें मालदीव में लोकतांत्रिक शक्तियों की मदद करने की हर संभव कोशिश करनी चाहिए. हमारा विचार बहुत स्पष्ट है, हमें मालदीव में किसी विशेष तरह के प्रशासन का पक्ष नहीं लेना है, हमें तो यह बात सुनिश्चित करना है, की मालदीव की जनता को भारत की भूमिका मालदीव के हित में लगे. हम सभी जानते हैं, राष्ट्रपति यामीन की सरकार पहले से ही चीन की गोद में बैठी हुई है, और भारत और मालदीव के संबंध बहुत खराब हालत से गुजर रहे हैं. मूल रूप से मालदीप में खोने के लिए हमारे पास कुछ भी नहीं है. भारत मालदीव में कोई भूमिका अदा करे, या ना करे. एक बात तय है, चीन अपने व्यापक हितों की रक्षा के लिए मालदीप में अपनी भूमिका जरूर निभाएगा. आशा की जानी चाहिए, कि जल्द ही मालदीप में लोकतंत्र की विजय होगी. आपके विचार से, क्या भारत को मालदीप में लोकतांत्रिक शक्तियों का समर्थन करना चाहिए?

In a sudden and surprising order, Supreme court of Maldives has thrown out the terrorism conviction against pro India former president of Maldives Mohamed Nasheed, and ordered the release of key opposition political prisoners.



With the help of Supreme court order, 12 opposition parliament members also got reinstated. Thus opposition suddenly got clear majority in the parliament of Maldives.



Rather interestingly, President Yameen's half brother and former long time ruler of Maldives Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has already joined opposition ranks.



As you can understand, this supreme court order ends Pro China President Yameen's authoritarian rule.



But as soon as Maldivian police chief confirmed that his organization would comply with the land mark Supreme court order.



Yameen government dismissed police chief, and public protests started.

Police had to fire tear gas to disperse the crowd and arrest several other to control the angry opposition protesters.



As it appears, President Yameen will try to hold the office by all possible means.



Last year in July 2017, when Opposition tried to impeach president Yameen, the Maldivian security forces locked down the parliament.



Armed with Supreme court order, democratic Opposition forces have become unstoppable. Going forward President Yameen can only delay his downfall.



It would be interesting to see if free and fair elections are conducted later this year.



With Maldives in turmoil, China will certainly provide all possible help to Yameen government.

If President Yameen goes, it will seriously harm Chinese interests in Maldives.



On the expected lines, India asked all to respect and abide by the order of the Maldivian supreme court.



While India is closely monitoring the situation, in democracy its people of Maldives, who got to decide if they want to be ruled by president Yameen any more.



We would rather say, in whatever way possible, India should help democratic forces in Maldives.


Our Idea is rather simple. Utmost care should be taken to ensure, India should be perceived as being on the side of Maldivian people, rather than favoring any particular regime.



We all know, President Yameen's government has already been sitting in Chinese lap. Indian bilateral relationship with Maldives is already on the all time low. Basically we have nothing to loose now.



Whether India plays its role or not, China is going to play for sure after all they have lot on stake now. Hopefully, democracy will win in Maldives soon.
