Hello Friends, welcome to Real Quick Info channel. Lets discuss about today's topic.
We all know, 15 days long state of emergency has been declared in Maldives.Chief Justice of Supreme court and Former Maldivian strongman Maumoon Abdul Gayoom have been arrested.
The effectiveness of implementation of presidential order confirm one point beyond any doubt, Maldivian Armed forces stand behind President Yameen with its full force.
Though president Yameen appears to have lost the moral authority to rule over Maldives, yet He still holds full control over government executive machinery.
Hence, the relevant question is how India can contribute to solution in Maldives?
Opposition leader and Former president Mohamed Nasheed has openly asked for swift Indian interventions in the from of sending military for dislodging current regime, or envoy.to mediate with both the parties.
First of all, lets be very clear, this is internal political and judicial issue of Maldvies.
Many of us even prefer India to replicate the Success of operation operation cactus conducted in the year 1988.
But fact of the matter is, then Maldivian president formally requested US, UK and India for military intervention. India being the closest country was able to provide swift response.
Right now, there is no reason India can justify its military intervention in Maldvies.
You might have noticed, in this whole series of events, China remain totally silent. Their silence simply support President Yameen.
Hence, even if India conducts military operation, In comparison to Operation cactus, it will definitely be bigger and longer operation, and there is quite possibility of China providing direct or indirect military support to current Maldivian regime.
The idea, there is little possibility for India to conduct swift operation and claim the victory soon.
Moreover, Foreign Indian military intervention may end up increasing President Yameen's clout in his support base.
Hence, rather than weakening him, we may end up entangling in Maldivian dispute and making him stronger.
Another option for India is to do nothing. which is limited to India issuing travel advisory and let the internal political game to play out in Maldives.
As far as we think, this is the easiest way and we should avoid pursuing it.
Since India has already asked current regime to implement the order of Supreme court, still current regime went ahead to declared national emergency.
One more option for India is to make Maldvies pay the price of not heeding Indian advice.
India is bound by bilateral agreement signed in the year 1981 to export essential commodities to Maldives. Though Maldives has gone closer to china, still India Maldives trade is worth 7 Billion Rupees.
If India retorts by breaking agreement, or by putting trade restriction, India will not harm President Yameen, but the Maldivian population.
If we had learnt anything from Nepalese experience, this option must the strictly no go option.
Interestingly, While declaring emergency, President Yameen himself has said that, he could call elections early, which are scheduled to happen later this year.
Therefore, our approach should be to make President walk the talk. History has clearly taught us, The internal problems of any country are best solved by local people. Just because we are a democratic nation, from outside we can not plant democracy in other countries.
Its job of Maldivian people to establish democracy. India cannot and should not assume their role.
Our own history told us, When Indira Gandhi declared emergency, Neither America nor Britain conducted Swift operations, it was the people of India, who conclusively reestablished democracy by emphatically throwing her out of power.
Therefore as a proactive facilitator, India along with world community should ensure that free and fair election are conducted in Maldives.
There is no need for us to become hero in this whole crisis. The diplomatic support must be provided to opposition camp without directly getting into the whole dispute.
Please note, if we act in haste now, Our swift action may not only boomerang on us, but also we may end up pushing Maldives in Chinese hands forever.
One of our esteemed viewer Sri Rang Jha has asked us to create this video, we are thankful to him.
