Against China, Quad Group will handle Maldives Crisis?

Lets discuss about today's topic.

As thirty days of extended emergency in Maldives is about to end soon, Thousands of protesters poured into the streets  of the capital Maale on Friday night.

In order to contain the protest, 141 pro democracy supporters were arrested.

This has been one of the biggest Anti Yameen Protests, Maldives has ever seen.

While there is no clarity, about the end of emergency after 30 days duration, there is no possibility of external Indian intervention in any time soon.

We all know, one of the primary reason, India didn't interfered in Maldives, because we didn't want to escalate Maldives crisis into Indo China Confrontation.

However, its quite heartening, that People of Maldives have taken the lead,and they are now fighting for the democratic rights.

Its their struggle, which will ensure arrival of democracy sooner than later.


If you can recall, Last year in November month, first ever meeting of The quad group was organized.

You know, the Quad is an informal security dialogue in between America, Japan, Australia and India.

Individually, each quad country was monitoring  the Chinese actions in the Indo pacific region.
Now these all countries will collectively discuss Maldives issue in next  follow up meeting, which will be convened very soon.


Needless to say, Quad countries have to figure out, How to handle Chinese challenge.
Crisis in Maldives should be seen as an opportunity to provide coordinated response to China.

While Maldivian regime wants India not to interfere in its internal politics, its very happy with Chinese meddling in the internal affairs.

All of us know,  In the absence of Chinese blessing, Emergency in Maldives cannot survive even one day more.


That's where, its very important for Quad countries to discuss and find a way out, so that Chinese meddling can be checked and democracy can be revived soon.

In the context of Maldives, If this organization also fails to assume a strategic posture against China, There would be serious question mark on the very utility of this organization.

As far as we think, Individual quad country can continue to appease China, or Collectively They can stop increasing Chinese threat in Indo Pacific region.

Lets see if Quad group makes this obvious choice, or not.
