As per multiple published news reports, This year China has announced 8.1 percent hike in its defense expenditure.



Now Chinese defense budget its more than 3 times of Indian defense budget.

We may tend to think, Chinese army will be at least three times more powerful than Indian Army. However, if you look things in proper perspective. The rapid rise in Chinese defense expenditure has been in line with its rapid economic rise.



Another major point to highlight here is, in the year 2014, Only 2.1 percent of Chinese G D P was allocated to defense, while India allocated around 2.4 percent of G D P to defense.



You know, in this years budget, India has given only 7% hike to its defense budget, and there has been obvious demand to increase it further.



However, without growing total size of Economy, we cannot afford increase in the size of defense budget alone.



Therefore, rather than asking for steep hike in budget allocation, we should ask for accelerated economic growth.



High defense budget growth rate with lower GDP growth rate is simply not sustainable.



However, the rapid rise in Chinese defense budget, confirms its desire to protect and further its business interests.



With current President getting life time presidential term, the writing on the wall is very clear for us to read.



We have to be ready to face more aggressive china in future.



In this scenario, the two front war with both China and Pakistan looks to be very threatening scenario. While we should prepare for it, we should smartly try to avoid it.



In last one year, We have seen, its rather easy to handle logical China, than irrational Pakistan.



Hence, the point is, We should try to use the same approach, we have used in Financial Action task force .



In fact, America wanted Japan to get Vice President Post of Financial Action task Force.

But It was India, which negotiated and got China this important global post, in lieu of Chinese silence against Its all weather friend Pakistan.



The point we are making, If we  can engage innovatively with China, we can effectively push pakistan to losing side.



With America no longer interested in listening to Pakistan, Chinese indifferent attitude will reduce bargaining power of weaker Pakistan to a greater extent.



We are not saying, its very easy to implement Financial Action Task force approach in each and every case. Only we are saying, if we can get things done, while being Chinese friend, why to make China our enemy.



Here again, we should approach case specific approach to deal with China, and if we are creative enough we can find a way out.



Therefore no need for us to press the panic button because of rising Chinese defense budget, Rather we got to keep our mind cool, and handle China smartly.
