We all know, Due to  year after year's poor budget allocation, the modernization plan for Indian armed forces is suffering from prolonged delays.



Needless to say, We need to allocate sufficient funds, to ensure our defense modernization plan doesn't get derailed.



Until size of our economy grows significantly, its equally important to distribute our limited budget wisely.



Though its important to spend money on our own defense preparedness, yet its equally important to support our friendly small neighbors, so that they can defend their interests themselves.



With this line of thinking, During the visit of Mauritius, Indian President has offered a $100 Million line of credit loan to Mauritius.



With this money, India will supply a Multi-Purpose Offshore Patrol Vessel, so that Mauritius can strengthen its defense capabilities.



In simple words, India has loaned $100 Million to Mauritius, so that it can buy Indian patrol vessel. Hence, The money Mauritius is borrowing from India, will come back to India.



While discussing this Indian offer, we must highlight the reality, that Just like other Indian neighbors, Eyeing easy money, Mauritius is also inching closer to China.



Mauritius wants to become financial center of Africa, and expects major Chinese role in that plan.


We all know, Cheaper labor contributed a lot to Chinese economic growth, But the current trend of rising wages and ageing population will push Chinese companies to Africa to access cheaper and younger labor.



That's where, As a center of China Africa trade corridor, Mauritius is attracting Chinese companies.



While maintaining security links with India, Mauritius wants to have stronger financial relationship with China.



As long as Mauritius is not falling into Chinese debt trap, We should have no issue in its rapid economic growth.



Keeping in view common security concerns in the Indian Ocean Region, India and Mauritius must collaborate in defense space.



Somewhere down the line, We need to elevate our economic relationship with Mauritius. In fact, It can become a friendly hub for Indian companies looking for business opportunities in African main land.
