You know, on this Thursday, For the first time, Air India flight landed at Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion Airport passing through the air space of  Saudi Arabia.



Undoubtedly, years of diplomatic work, regional geopolitics and shared concern about Iran have contributed to end 70 years old ban on planes flying to, or from Israel through Saudi Air Space.





This new route goes through the air space of Oman, Saudi Arabia and Jordan.



Please note, the significance of this route increases with the simple fact that Both Oman and Saudi Arabia don't recognize state of Israel.



Until now, these flights used to take Red Sea route that swings toward Ethiopia to avoid Saudi Air space.



This longer route obviously requires more fuel and more time.



Naturally, its cheaper for Air India to fly through this new shorter route.



That's where the problem starts, while Air India has this privilege.





Flights of Israeli National Airline will have to go through the old longer route



Therefore, Israeli National Air Line has complained, that Israeli Ministry of tourism has put them on disadvantage by awarding India with $926000 route grant.



Due to lack of reciprocity, Israeli National Air Line considers this route approval to Air India as unfair and arbitrary.



Now, Their complaint is being filed before supreme court of Israel for hearing.



While Israeli National Air Line has got the point, it has to hold some patience.



Sooner or later, Saudi Arabia may grant route access to it as well.



As far as we think, Israeli National Air Line is employing pressure tactic against its own government.



However, it sounds really bad, that Indian National Air Line is unnecessarily  being dragged into all of this.



And its not good for both India and Israel, to create a public perception, by putting the invaluable bilateral friendship at stake due to short term commercial loss.





Its just a beginning and  all relevant parties should welcome it.



Perhaps Government of Israel do better to convince its National Air line, to not let priority to its short term commercial loss supersede the priority to the long term national benefits to Israel.
