During the Indian visit of French president, our focus has remained on security cooperation in between these two friendly nations.



However, its very important to realize that, International Solar Alliance represents what unified power of India and France can achieve.



In November 2015, Prime Minister Modi launched this initiative, which is head quartered in India.



India has partnered with France to take this idea of Solar Alliance forward.



With in 3 years duration, this alliance has grown to include 121 Sun Shine countries, which are located on tropical zone.



Please note, this alliance has been registered as inter governmental organization under the Charter of United Nations.



Initially, all those countries, which receive 300 days of sun light were deemed eligible for the membership of this alliance.



But now, this restriction has been removed, all countries can join this alliance out of their willingness.



Now, with the tomorrow's formal launch of International Solar Alliance, The result of joint diplomatic efforts of India and France is before all of us.







Heads of 23 nations and 10 ministerial representatives will attend first International solar alliance summit co hosted by India and France.



As the name of this alliance suggests, its primary objective is to collaboratively work for efficient exploitation of solar energy to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.



Having partnership with global funding agencies, this alliance has committed one trillion dollars investment. The idea is to exploit economy of scale to reduce cost of solar power, thus making it more affordable for remote and in accessible communities.



Needless to say, Alliance members will support each other in the  Solar research and development as well.



But as you can understand, being founding member of this alliance, India has gained leadership position in this alliance.



The idea is to strengthen the ties in between developing countries, and earn their good will for  India.



In future, India is looking for global power status, and International solar alliance is a platform for India to showcase its leadership credentials to the whole world.



Therefore,  we should not limit International solar alliance only with Solar Energy.



So much diplomatic energy has not been invested just to set up mega solar parks.


If you allow us to say, relevance of International Solar Alliance for India is as much as relevance of Belt and Road Initiative for China.
