आप को शायद पता हो, थाईलैंड को दो भागों में बांटते हुए, प्रस्तावित क्ररा नहर थाईलैंड की खाड़ी को अंडमान सागर से जोड़ती है. 



दूरी को 1200 किलोमीटर कम करते हुए, यह नहर अत्यधिक रूप से व्यस्त मलक्का स्ट्रेट्स का एक विकल्प मानी जाती है. 



स्वेज नहर और पनामा नहर की तरह, क्ररा नहर भी यातायात की सुविधा बढ़ाने वाली है, लेकिन पिछले 300 वर्षों के दौरान इस नहर का निर्माण नहीं हो सका. इसके पीछे नहर का निर्माण करने की भारी कीमत, पर्यावरण को नुकसान और थाईलैंड के दक्षिणी प्रांतों में अलगाव वादी आंदोलन के भड़कने का खतरा जैसे कई कारण हैं. 





हम सभी जानते हैं, वैश्विक राजनीति में किसी भी संकट के दौरान, चीन को सबसे बड़ा डर मलक्का स्ट्रेट्स मे लगने वाली नाका बंदी से है. 



यही कारण है,चीन को यह नया रास्ता बड़ा पसंद आता है. वर्ष 2005 की अमेरिकी रिपोर्ट के अनुसार, इस नहर के निर्माण के लिए चीन 25 बिलियन डॉलर धन देने के लिए तैयार था. 





वर्ष 2015 में, थाईलैंड की सरकार चीन की सरकार के साथ इस नहर को लेकर सहमति पर पहुंची. लेकिन बड़े ही स्वभाबिक कारणों से, थाईलैंड की सरकार को सार्वजनिक रूप से ऐसी किसी भी सहमति के अस्तित्व को नकारना  पड़ा. 



ऐसा कहा जाता है, विचार की कभी मौत नहीं होती है. इसलिए अंग्रेजी के अखबार बिजनेस स्टैंडर्ड में छपी खबर के अनुसार, थाईलैंड में एक बहुत ही प्रभावशाली समूह ने ऐसी मांग की है, की 30 बिलियन डॉलर की कीमत पर इस नहर के निर्माण के प्रस्ताव पर विचार किया जाना चाहिए. 



जैसा की आप समझ सकते हैं, थाईलैंड में इस प्रकार की मांग को बढ़ावा कौन दे रहा होगा. कोई बात नहीं, चीन इस प्रोजेक्ट के लिए पूरा धन उपलब्ध कराते हुए, इसे अपने बेल्ट एवं रोड इनिशिएटिव में शामिल करने को तैयार हो गया है. 



इस बात में कोई संदेह नहीं होना चाहिए, अगर यह नहर बन गई, तो चीन का प्रभाव हिंद महासागर में बढ़ जाएगा, और चीन अपनी इच्छा अनुसार हिंद महासागर के मामलों में हस्तक्षेप कर पायेगा. 





जहाँ तक थाईलैंड की सरकार का सवाल है, तो वह असमंजस की हालत से गुजर रही है. सार्वजनिक तौर पर वह इस प्रोजेक्ट में रूचि नहीं रखते हैं, लेकिन अंदर कमरे में बैठकर शक्तिशाली चीन के साथ इस संदर्भ में सौदा करने के लिए तैयार रहते हैं. 



हम सब ने चीन पाकिस्तान इकोनॉमिक कॉरिडोर के बारे में बहुत चर्चा की है, लेकिन अब हमें इस नई नहर के बारे में भी सजग हो जाना चाहिए. 





विश्व समुदाय के साथ मिलकर, हमें  निश्चित करना होगा, कि इतना महत्वपूर्ण प्रोजेक्ट सिर्फ एक देश के द्वारा पूरा ना किया जाए. 



अगर यह प्रोजेक्ट क्षेत्र के सभी देशों  को लाभ देने वाला है, तो सभी देशों को इस में भाग लेना चाहिए. 





यह समझ में आने वाली बात है, कि चीन इस प्रोजेक्ट को लेकर अन्य क्षेत्रीय देशों  के साथ मिलकर काम करना नहीं चाहता है. 





लेकिन भारत सरकार को बड़ी ही गंभीरता पूर्वक इस क्ररा नहर के हिंद महासागर  के शक्ति संतुलन पर पड़ने वाले बुरे प्रभाव के बारे में विचार करना चाहिए. और समय रहते उचित कदम उठाना चाहिए.

You may know, The proposed Kra canal is supposed to connect the Gulf of Thailand with Andaman Sea by cutting Thailand into two parts.







Reducing distance by 1200 Kilometers, This canal is supposed to provide alternative to transit through the overcrowded Malacca Straits.







Though Just like Suez Canal or panama Canal, this Kra canal will improve transportation, yet this proposed canal could not be developed in last 300 years due to high cost , negative effect on environment and fear of growing separatist movement in Southern most provinces of Thailand.











We all know, The worst fear of china remains the Blockade on Malacca strait during any geopolitical crisis.







That’s why China obviously loves this new route. As per 2005 American report, China was even ready to pay 25 Billion Dollars to build this canal.







In the year 2015, Thai government signed a memorandum of understanding with china for this project. For very obvious reasons, Thai government had to deny the existence of any such agreement.







But as its said, an Idea never dies. As per news published in Business Standard, once again last month, a very influential group in Thailand has demanded creation of committee to examine this 30 Billion dollar project.







You can figure out who is fueling this artificial demand in Thailand for Kra canal. Anyways, With full funding support, Now China is willing to include this project in Belt and Road initiative.







Without any doubt, If this canal is built, it will increase Chinese influence  and capability to intervene in Indian ocean.







As far as Thailand government is concerned, they are in dilemma. In public they are not interested in this project, but in private they are ready to cut the deal with Mighty Chinese.







While we all have discussed about China Pakistan Economic Corridor project, We need to be warned about this canal project as well.







Along with global community, we need to ensure, that such project should not be completed by funding from a Single country.







If this project can really help all nations of the region, all should take part in it.







Understandably, china is not  interested in taking other regional countries along for this project.







Anyways, Indian government need to carefully consider the negative effect of this new canal on the power balance of Indian ocean, and take appropriate timely action,
