You may recall, There has been no Saarc summit after India pulled out of it in the year 2016.



The primary reason for such decision was Pakistan's cross border terrorist attacks on India, and Pakistani interference in Indian Internal affairs.



In last 2 years, Since there has been no change on the ground, India will not participate in this years Saarc summit. Therefore the possibility of 2018 Saarc summit collapsed.



Meanwhile, top officials of Saarc member states continue to meet to discuss various aspects.



As per news report published in Hindustan Times, Representing all eight Saarc countries, Senior Police officers and officials responsible for countering drugs and narcotics trafficking  have met In Nepal on last Wednesday.



In this meeting, Nepal has floated the idea of merging two Saarc desks focused on narcotics, and terrorism and upgrading them to create Saarc Police, which can effectively deal with trans national criminal activities, including narcotics trafficking and terrorism.



Though the idea in itself is very good, yet There is effectively no possibility about this idea working in current environment, when Saarc process itself is stalled due to single nation in Pakistan.





We all know, Before Nepal's Prime Minister Visited India, Pakistan's Prime Minister visited Nepal.



that's fine, but Pakistan has consistently failed to address Indian core concerns to start the stalled Saarc process.



As far as we think, Given there will be no change in Pakistan's negative attitude and behavior, even if we create such organization, there will be serious question mark on its success and  effectiveness.








As per rules, if even one Saarc member state opposes, the proposal cannot move forward.

Hence, this idea of Saarc Police hits the dead end now.
