Hello Friends, welcome to Real Quick Info channel. Lets discuss about today's topic.

We all know, Since Year 2003, there was agreement in between India and Iran about developing Chabahar port

However, only after Iran Nuclear deal had been concluded in the year 2015, the work on this port could start, and last year this port came in to so called 'operation'.

Needless to say, As per the desire of Trump administration, Only Chabahar port offers alternative route for India to increase involvement in Afghanistan.

Now, that America has formally pulled out of the deal, The economic sanctions against Iran would jeopardize this whole project.

The  urgency of American aim to change the revolutionary regime of Iran would decide to which degree the economic sanctions will be reinstated on Iran.

Given all other countries are still part of the deal, hectic parleys are going on to figure a way out without America in the deal.

As of now, there is no certainty on what kind of economic sanctions will be reimposed on Iran.

And this uncertainty about the future has effectively stopped any progress on the port.

Depending on upcoming sanctions, all parties will have to return to drawing board once again to renegotiate terms and conditions on using Chabahar port.

Possible American sanctions may penalize banks and financial institution for doing business with Iran. The fear of American penalties have made banks nervous.

As a result, there is risk on lock being placed on this ambitious multinational connectivity project.

For example,  three infrastructure development contracts granted to Chinese and Finnish firm have been facing delays, for Involved bankers seek clarity from Washington before approving guarantees.

In addition, Afghan traders have also been cut off from formal and better global funding system. Now, they face difficulty in doing formal trade via chabahar port.

Lets consider the reality, without sending few wheat shipment to Afghanistan via this port, Hardly any purely commercial import export had started, before cloud of uncertainty started hanging over this port.

In the past, Afghan officials tried hard to get exemptions from American sanctions for afghan companies, but failed.

We can reasonably assume, this time around as well, there will not be any exemption for India Afghan trade via Chabahar port.

As long as this bilateral trade benefits Iran, Americans will not be interested in providing any kind of waiver.

In addition, International North South Transport corridor, which was supposed to be operationalize this year, will sadly have uncertain future.

All these outcomes of American decisions will end up making Pakistan happier  and Afghanistan more dependent on it.

As you can understand, There will not be any progress on Chabahar port, until there is clarity on new american sanctions on Iran.

Being on Optimistic side, there is possibility of new deal being finalized in near future.

American secretary of state Mike Pompeo is going to present his plan to have bigger and better deal with Iran to address the totality of Iranian threats to America.

If you have seen, president trump is basically trying to change the status quo. He is pulling out of the old deals, only to renegotiate for new deal with position of strength.

If you allow us to say, having Iranian deal is in interest of America, and sooner or later they will find a way.

For now, we have to accept the reality, that path to Chabahar port goes via Washington DC.

Alternatively, India and Iran can focus on creating a funding mechanism, to make things moving on the ground.

Lets be realistic, these alternative ways are less than efficient, and will prevent full commercial exploitation of facilities built at chabahar port, which has never been built for government to government trade alone.

As per your views, In near future, will Chabahar port become effectively operational?
