Hello Friends, welcome to Real Quick Info channel. Lets discuss about today's topic. In the recent times, India has asked Japan to play proactive role in Indian Ocean region.
No wonder, last November, for the first time, Japanese foreign minister visited Maldives after completing his trip of Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
As we all realize, there is massive need of infrastructural development in our region, and If China is taking advantage of this, To some extent, we should blame ourselves for this situation.
In simple words, If you leave space, someone else is going to occupy it sooner or later.
We all know, India has its financial constraints, but Japan has enormous funding capabilities.
Now, it appears Japan is coming up to the challenge.
Now, As part of its Free and open Indo Pacific strategy, Japan is getting ready to provide Yen loans to develop three ports in Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
Its very important to highlight here, these projects will be implemented by collaboration with other nations.
For example, Japan Myanmar and Thailand will jointly build a new port in Dawaei Myanmar.
Japan is also building new port in Matarbari Bangladesh, as a hub that can unload half of Bangladesh's cargo volume.
Interestingly, even China was inclined to build these two ports, since Japan has already started the talk, Chinese plan could not fly.
In addition, India, Sri Lanka and Japan will expand an existing small scale port in Trincomalee into a large trade port.
If we want to protect the Indian oceanic shipping lanes peacefully, the only way is to build robust infrastructure to counter balance rising Chinese economic might in the region.
We all understand, It doesn't take much time for economic power to transform into military power.
you know, in the past Japan had joined Chinese Belt and Road initiative, however as significant strategy change, Japan will not collaborate on such Belt and Road project, which may end up being developed as Chinese military base in the long term.
Overall, its very pleasing that Japan is no longer in inward looking mode. The confident Japan should play its role in the region, and India is ready to work along with it.
As per your views, Should India not collaborate with Japan in Indian ocean region?
