America may offer a Better Deal for Thaad Missile System

Friends, Since India is about to buy S400 Missile defense system from Russia.



We all are aware of the fact, that America does not like India buying S400 missile defense system from its enemy Russia.



You might have read, With better terms, America is actively thinking to offer its Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (Thaad) to India in upcoming 2+2 dialogue.



This American offer makes India to select either Russia S400 or American Thaad.



In fact, The comparison in between S400, and Thaad has been a topic of interest among all of us.



Many of us are in favor of India buying S400 as soon as possible, Irrespective of threatening American sanctions.



But as you might know, its not even wise to compare S400 with Thaad.  Its like comparing apple with oranges.


For example, Thaad is designed to be anti ballistic missile defense system, and S400 is designed to be an anti aircraft weapon system.





Lets be clear, S400 cannot deal with conventional warhead ballistic missile and nuclear warhead tipped ballistic missile.



Unlike S400, Thaad Interceptor missile carries no warhead. Since it takes full advantage of its kinetic energy. It kills incoming ballistic missile by hitting it with full force. Thus it minimizes the risk of explosion in missile tipped with conventional or nuclear war head.



Friends you know, Thaad should only be compared with S500, which is currently in development and testing phase.



Given developing truly anti ballistic missile defense system is very difficult, it will take some time for Russia to build S500 and deploy in the field.





In the past, We have discussed, We must go ahead with the purchase of S400 as per the current plan.



However, we must seriously consider buying Thaad as well.  Yes, We are suggesting, if America is offering good terms, we should buy Thaad in addition to S400, which we are currently buying from Russia.



Given our no first use strategy of nuclear weapon, having effective anti ballistic missile system is not a luxury but a necessity.



There is no point of annihilating Pakistan after getting Delhi already turned into ashes.



We need both S400 and Thaad. It will require a lot of money, we understand That, and it will end up putting lot of strain on our budget. However, this is strategic purchase for long term.



Its just a thought worth exploring if India should think of buying both rather than buying one of them.
