Hello Friends, welcome to Real Quick Info channel. Lets discuss about today's topic.

On April 25, Chinese civil Aviation Authority sent threatening letter to Airlines across the globe, asking to change the way they refer to Taiwan on their websites and in marketing literature within 30 days.



If you search for flights, you can find search option "Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport".



China wanted all global airlines to change this search option to "Taipei, Taoyuan International Airport"



In reality, Taoyuan International Airport serves Taipei, which is capital of Taiwan.



As per One China Policy, China doesn't recognize Taiwan as separate country. Now, it wants airlines to start following One China policy by ensuring that Taiwan word is removed even from search option.



Majority of global airlines have accepted Chinese dictate and changed their websites. However, Indian airline had time till extended July 25 dead line.



In this regard, China has issued warning that websites of those airlines would be blocked , which don't accede to Chinese demand.



This was direct threat to lose passenger and business of Mainland China.



Already Financially weak Air India has its office in Shanghai and it was facing the danger to its operations.



Much before 25 July Deadline, Air India has acceded to Chinese demand and now you can book flights only for Taipei, Taoyuan International Airport.



Since, Air India is still government controlled, it would have certainly got it confirmed with Indian foreign ministry before making this change.





Airlines from America, Japan and Canada have already accepted the demand.



When America asked to have discussion on Chinese demand, China has clearly refused and asked America to follow One China policy.



With its sheer trade power, Though China was able to bring change in the websites of global airlines, yet  Taoyuan International Airport will remain located in Taiwan.



In our couple of videos, we have argued that India should not accept One China Policy as long as China doesn't follow One India policy.





Though of late India stopped showing public commitment towards One China Policy, yet current decision of Air India confirms, that India has no option but to given in to Chinese demand without taking anything from China.



However, the problem is, We don't have political will to make china change its behavior. that's where we end up calculating profit and loss and selecting the easy option, which china wants us to choose.



Indian policy of Chinese appeasement will not bring any change in Chinese behavior.

What is rather surprising is, effectively all global airlines including American Delta have succumbed to Chinese demand.



This brings us to central question, if Chinese economic power continue to rise, are we ready to live in a world, when we have to follow whatever China says?



As of now, it appears real possibility.



From business point of view what ever Air India has done is correct, but from long term National point of view, we got to be strong enough to say No and stand tall in front of Chinese unreasonable demands.
