Maldives joins hands with Pakistan in power sector!!

You might have read Alarmist news of Maldives entering into power deal with Pakistan.



Two weeks ago a memorandum of understanding has been signed in between Maldives State owned electricity company and Pakistan's water and power development authority.



Now Pakistan, which itself is surviving on Chinese life support system is supposed to help Maldives in building capacity in power sector.



Though Pakistan can use these facilities to conduct covert activities against India, Yet there is no guarantee that right now Pakistan is not using Maldives for anti India activities.



The point is, Pakistan has already been using all small Indian neighbors against India. Therefore Sky will not fall, if Pakistan builds something officially in Maldives. Frankly, possibility of this happening is very less.



if you think carefully, we need not worry too much about this understanding in between Maldives and Pakistan.



By becoming too much concerned about these inherently weak proposals, we allow very small Maldive to have psychological win over very big India.



Maldives deserves more thoughtful response and We believe, India of late has moved in that direction.



Rather what we should think about Maldives inviting Pakistan to conduct joint patrols in Maldives exclusive economic zone.



After early years Maldives visit of Pakistan's Army Chief, the possibility for this joint patrol was identified.



Now that India is about to remove its last military footprint from Maldives, it would be interesting to see if Maldives gathers courage to cross the red line by replacing Indian military personnel with Pakistani or Chinese troops.



That's the scenario, in which we should find a way to provide befitting reply to Maldives.





However, We need to be mindful of the fact that, Both Maldives and Pakistan are going to face elections in near term, and as we have discussed in this video, President Yameen is going to face serious challenge from joint opposition candidate in September presidential election.



As of now, We should wait and watch how political process unfolds in Maldives.



President Yameen wins or loses, In both these cases, we have to come up with long term strategy against Maldives.
