As we all agree, Indian Acquisition of no other defense platform has generated more attention than Acquisition of S400 Missile Defense system from Russia.





After president Trump signed National Defense authorization bill on 13th of August with provision of presidential waiver from American sanctions for partner countries, if they buy defense equipment  from Russia.



We all have considered it, as Done deal for India to purchase S400 from Russia without any fear of American Sanctions.


However,  fresh clouds of uncertainty are once again hanging on this deal.





As per Senior defense official in Trump administration,  The waiver from American sanction is not a guarantee for India if we purchase S400 missile defense system from Russia.



Basically, America still has significant concern with Indian acquisition of S400 missile defense system.



You know, Ideally American presidential waiver provision is designed to allow partner countries including India, to buy legacy Russian defense equipment parts and weapon without American sanctions.





However, In spirit, it doesn't allow if Partner country engages in new Russian defense purchase.



As we have discussed in last couple of Videos, With American sanctions, Indian total cost of ownership for Russian S400 missile defense system will go up.



having said that, so far as we think, irrespective of American sanctions, we got to buy S400 Missile defense system.



America must realize just before first ever strategic 2+2 dialogue such statement leaves bad taste in mouth.



Though America has warned India not to proceed with S400 acquisition and expect american waiver, yet We would like to believe such decision will have to be taken at the highest level of Trump administration, therefore we need not give much attention to recently issued formal policy statement.



Hopefully, America would look things from holistic perspective.



In last two months, India has moved ahead with purchase of American National Advanced Surface to Air Missile System Phase 2 at the cost of 700 crore rupees.



Just few days ago, India accepted the necessity to purchase 24 Multi role MH 60 Romeo Anti Submarine Helicopter at the whopping cost of 13000 crores.





In addition, As per news report published by Hindustan times, India and america have reached common understanding to allow India to join much awaited American communication and Compatibility and security agreement during upcoming 2+2 dialogue.



This India specific agreement is expected to address Indian security concerns, after all Indian defense forces don't operate american defense equipment alone.



More importantly, From Future perspective, this agreement must not be allowed to limit our options to acquire best defense equipment from anywhere in the world.



Now, this agreement is waiting for the clearance from Cabinet Committee of Security. Lets see, if India joins this another American foundational agreement, or not.



However, America must stop Arm twisting India to stop purchase of S400 defense system.



Early this month, America stopped delivery of F35 fighter jets to Turkey, because Russia has communicated, that it would start delivering S400 missile defense system to Turkey in sometime next year.



American defense Secretary has clearly stated that America is concerned, and does not recommend Turkish purchase of S400 from Russia.



Nevertheless, Turkey has decided to move ahead with S400 purchase even without Getting American F35 jets.



While there is no similarity in between India and Turkey. America must realize, when its warnings dont work against Turkey, there is no possibility whatsoever, that India will go back on its decision to purchase S400 missile defense system.



Anyways, We should welcome American foreign and defense secretary for first ever 2+2 dialogue. We hope, better sense would prevail on Americans and they would keep the spirit of mutual give and take alive.



So far as we think, Even if America stops delivery of 24 MH60 Romeo helicopters, we must buy S400 missile defense system.



After all, price and terms can be on negotiation table, Indian long term national interest can never be negotiated with any foreign country on the face of earth.
