Yesterday former governor of RBI has forecasted that India will eventually become bigger than China.
These are certainly sweet sounding words.
But if you may go back in the past, there were many experts who commented that due to democracy India would have better chance to grow than China from long term perspective.
At the same time, there were other experts who used to say that America need not worry since Chinese economy will eventually slow down, thanks to its state controlled economy.
There is one common thinking among all these experts, Neither India not America need not do any thing different, because China will eventually meet the economic decline.
The fundamental point is, all these experts want to protect the status quo, which only benefits China.
Experts want to protect the status quo, and Status quo protects China. Thus we can safely say, experts want to protect China.
while Indian media is hard selling the idea about improvement in the India China relationship.
Chinese official data has been released, clearly showing that Indian trade deficit with China in the year 2018 has gone up by 6.14 Billion Dollars in comparison to year 2017.
In the same duration, Indian trade with China has gone up by only 2.49 Billion Dollars.
but please consider this, In the same duration, Chinese trade with India has gone up by 8.64 Billion Dollars.
Now, you please tell, who is getting more benefit in this trade relationship? India or China
Year after year, Indian trade deficit with China is going up.
With end of last year, Indian annual trade deficit with China stands at 57.86 billion Dollars.
Compare this with 60 Billion Dollar size of China Pakistan economic Corridor project. You would realize, its not China, but India which is basically funding it.
China is digging Indian grave and we are paying china for it.
Yesterday, Indian commerce secretary has once again said that China must import more Indian products to reduce trade deficit.
In last 20 years, this is not the first time, when India has asked China to do so.
But the result is before all of us.
In fact, when Indian commerce secretary was asking China to reduce trade deficit, China has imposed anti dumping duties on chemical imported from India and Japan.
if you may recall, few months back, Indian media was behaving like cheerleaders about the possibility of rise in Indian export to China .
Thanks to Trade tension in between America and China, China has started lowering tariffs and opening Chinese market for Indian raw commodities like non basmati rice.
But now that China has successfully trapped President Trump in trade talks, it was obvious that China has slapped fresh anti dumping duty on Indian chemicals to protect domestic chemical industry.
Indian commerce secretary was asking for reduced trade deficit, but china is taking steps which will only increase Indian trade deficit.
While Indian trade deficit with China has been rising, you can continue to hope for better ties in between India and China after first historic informal summit in between prime minister Modi and President Xi Jinping in April 2018.
8 Months passed and As Chinese trade data showcase, That informal summit has only made Chinese president Xi Jinping smile.
Insanity is doing same thing again and again and expecting different results. Now, its up to you if you consider what India has been doing as insanity or not.
Anyways, just as we have been told in the past, we need not worry about trade deficit with China, we should focus on future, because India will eventually become bigger than China one day.
