You know, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari commented today that India will stop its share of water from flowing to Pakistan.



It is being regarded as big announcement by Central government post Pulwama attack.



However, if you look at his tweets, the work on few projects to utilize the water of Indian share has already been started.



Additionally government has decided to plan to built a project  to divert the water from eastern rivers to Yamuna river.



This will obviously improve water flow in Yamuna in future.



However, we must be little careful here, Central government is still talking about utilizing 20% share of Indus systems of rivers.



Even after work in progress and in planning projects are completed, we will be at maximum utilizing our right of 20% water with Pakistan still enjoying 80% waters of Indus River System.



In simple words, Today's tweets from Union Minister don't change anything. Hence, it would be naive to consider it as big blow to Pakistan.



However, Pakistan would still consider it as an adversarial action from India and cry from the top of mountain.



Friends, even after India conducts another retaliation against Pakistan after last Pulwama attack, it would be childish from our side to expect that Pakistan will stop terrorist sponsorship.



Therefore, we must go beyond utilizing our share of 20%.



Breaking Indus River Treaty would be first step in this regard. to Begin with we should build necessary infrastructure so that we can reduce the 80% of water flowing to Pakistan.



We need not reduce water flow to Pakistan, we are just asking to build the capability to reduce water flow from 80% to 60% if required anytime.



Such infrastructure involving Dams, River links, will be huge bargaining tool for India.



Right now, Pakistan knows it well, even if Indian tries to break Indus Water treaty, it would take a long time for India to build necessary infrastructure.



If we break Indus water treaty now, and start building the necessary infrastructure, we would simply change the rules of the game.



Our point is simple, Let 80% water flow to Pakistan always, but we must have the Infrastructural capability to reduce it anytime.



Needless to say, building such capacity will require lot of investment, but it will also give huge bargaining power to India against Pakistan.



After any terror strike, all we have to do is to immediately start storage of water, and Pakistan will dry up.



Thus it will be huge capability to Punish Pakistan for its acts against India.



If Pakistan has been using terrorist strikes to force India for talks on Kashmir, Can we not use water strike to force Pakistan stop terrorism?



For Pakistan, the root problem is Kashmir, for India, the root problem should be terrorism. Let Pakistan solve its problem, but lets solve our problem first.



we are not saying this is the best idea, there could be another ways as well. If you know it, please let us all know.
