As you might have read in newspapers about President Trump threatening that America would end duty free access to Indian goods worth 5.6 Billion Dollars.



Its possible that after next 60 days, selected Indian products will no longer have duty free access to American market.



if you read the coverage in our media, you will realize that They are trying to put India in defensive mode here.



Majority of them have reported that President Trump has been forced to do this because of new rules related to online sell on Amazon and Flip kart.



And due to India forcing global card payment companies like Master card and Visa to store their data in India.





If President trump is reacting to these two Indian steps, the question arises, why America has decided to review India's eligibility to enjoy duty free access one year back in April 2018.



All we are saying is, We need not be defensive and apologetic here.



You all know, President Trump is obsessed with reducing American trade deficit with India.



Though we are aware of his objective, but we are still not clear why he is behaving in this manner, while India and America have still been negotiating.



The answer to this comes from his Book Trump: The art of the Deal, which was published in the year 1987. Thanks to this book, Every one in America knew, who was Donald Trump back in the 80s.



As per Trump, his style of deal making is simple and straightforward. He aims very high and then he just keeps pushing and pushing other party to get, what he is actually looking for.



You see, thats what he is doing with India. He is aiming for trade surplus with India and to reach there, he is applying pressure on India by denying duty free access to India.





There is a reason why Trump believes, his strategy would succeed, because back in the year 1985, he bought super luxury property in Mar a lago at only 8 Million Dollars, when owners were asking for 25 Million Dollars.



More interestingly, for the same property, Trump made first offer of 15 Million Dollars in the year 1982.



Therefore if you see, how he has handled negotiation with other countries for example Maxico, Canada, Pakistan, China and North Korea.



Mexico and Canada fell for this Trump trick and they replaced North Atlantic Free Trade Agreement with United States Mexico Canada Agreement.





However, His same trick has not yet been successful with Pakistan, China and North Korea.



You know, America applied Significant pressure on them, but even now negotiations are going on. Everyone is hopeful about the result in near future.



Now you might ask, why the hell he is negotiating with all countries simultaneously. The answer is he never gets attached to one deal or one approach at a time. he always keeps a lot of balls in the air, because He understand that most of deals fall out regardless how promising they seem in the beginning.



How Trump operates, he has written 30 years back, still our fake experts call him unpredictable.



Now the question comes, how to deal with trump, the answer to this question also comes from his book.



As per Trump, in any deal negotiation, the worst thing you can do is to seem desperate to make it. if another party find you are desperate, you will lose out very soon.



Therefore, we need not be desperate and defensive in front of trump. If he is applying pressure, we should be ready to withstand it.



Even after Trump ends duty free access to Selected Indian goods,  negotiations will happen to find a mutually acceptable deal. The best possible solution will be a deal, which will end up increasing the size of total trade in between India and America, with reducing American trade deficit.



However, As per Trump's book, we should know our market and negotiate for better deal for both parties. No matter how long it takes.



There is no need to be hurry, no need to be defensive. Lets see, how our next government takes it forward.
