Few of them have recently commented that its very good that Indian trade deficit with China has reduced.



Lets first consider Chinese official data, which clearly shows that Indian trade deficit with China in the year 2018 has gone up by 6.14 Billion Dollars in comparison to year 2017.



In the same duration, Indian trade with China has gone up by only 2.49 Billion Dollars.



but please consider this, In the same duration, Chinese trade with India has gone up by 8.64 Billion Dollars.



Now, you please tell, who is getting more benefit in this trade relationship? India or China.



Obviously, The answer is China.



This conclusively proves, though Indian trade with China is rising, but net Indian trade deficit with China is also going up.





Our fake expert would obviously want you to focus on rise in Indian export to China, rather than on increasing Indian trade deficit with China.



In this background, you all know, for last 6 years, India has been participating in negotiation to create world's largest free trade agreement, which is known as Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership



As per the population estimate, by 2024, India will have largest population in the world. Therefore we can safely say, in next 5 years, India will offer the largest single market in the world.



Therefore, its understandable that china is asking India to provide duty free imports to 85% of Chinese products in India.



In return, China is ready to provide duty free access to 92% of Indian exports.



Rather surprisingly, India has already offered to open up 74% of Indian market to Chinese goods in a phased manner over period of next 20 years.



Obviously China is not ready to accept this Indian proposal. Therefore more rounds of negotiations will be needed to conclude this free trade agreement by the end of this year.





so far as we think, we are totally against offering any concession to China so that it can sink India in the flood of cheap Chinese goods.



Moreover, China can even offer duty free access to 100% Indian goods. Because China can easily eliminate its tariff barriers, but it still has non tariff barriers like licensing requirement and quality issue.



India China trade history is filled with such examples, when China stopped Indian goods import due to quality concern.



Please consider this, in the year 2016, 14 Indian registered rice exporters received approval from China to export Rice.



However shipments were stopped due to alleged pest quarantine issues. If probability of pest infection was there, why China gave licenses?



Anyways, Thanks to trade war launched by President Trump, Last year India exported first consignment of non basmati rice to China.



The point we are trying to make is simple, its foolish to negotiate for duty free access in Chinese market, when it is structurally designed to restrict access to foreign goods.



Unless China structurally changes and provides free market access, there is no point in entering free trade agreement.



Lets see, what stand our next government takes on these negotiations.



Moving away from today's topic, Now a days, if you read Pakistani News papers, more than Pakistani leaders, they are publishing what Indian leaders are saying about Indian airstrike on Pakistan.



As you understand, In response to Indian Air Strike, Pakistan conducted lollipop strike to satisfy the ego of domestic audience.



Now, you see, no one in Pakistan is asking question to confirm the success of failed Lollipop strike, but Many in India are asking question to confirm the failure of Successful Air strike.



In simple words, Though terrorists are born in Pakistan, yet Traitors are certainly not born there.



With Election round the corner in India, its understandable, those who considered Surgical strike as failure, will obviously raise doubt on the success of latest Indian air strike.



Anyways returning to our main topic, the sad point is, Though rising unemployment is major election issue in India, yet Rising Indian trade deficit with China is not.  Needless to say, when people don't care about it, why will politicians talk about it.
