You might recall, In the year 2017, when Sri Lanka has leased Hambantota port to China for 99 years, there was hue and cry in whole world.
At that time, many experts have conveniently propagated the idea that one day Pakistan will also be forced to give Gwadar port on lease to China.
But 2 years before, In 2015, Pakistan had officially leased Gwadar Port to China for 43 years.
Leave aside whole world, even Pakistani people don't know that The Gwadar port which they are dreaming about day and night, is effectively in Chinese control.
As per the last data reported in March 2019, Gwadar port has generated 358 Million Dollars revenue in previous three years.
Out of this revenue, Gwadar Port authority got 32 Million Dollars, which is 9% of total revenue. and all weather friend of Pakistan China got 91% share of revenue earned by Gwadar Port.
We hope, for rest 39 years of Gwadar port, Pakistan will enjoy friendship with China, which is deeper than Arabian sea and higher than mount Everest .
if you have noticed, China has conveniently taken Hambantota port in its control, but there is no demand from the people of Hambantota to take back control of port from China.
As you all know, Pakistan is not Sri Lanka, Former Chief Minister of Balochistan has demanded that Federal government of Pakistan should hand over Gwadar Port to the provincial government so that local people of Balochistan can get benefit from it.
As per him, ownership of the resources of Balochistan must be given to the people of Balochistan, and no one will be allowed to snatch the rights of local people.
Please note here, we are not cooking up this statement, Pakistani news paper Express Tribune has published such news report. Its different matter that neither Pakistani nor Indian media is interested in people of Balochistan seeking their own rights.
Now that former Balochistan chief minister has demanded the control of Gwadar ports from federal government.
The basic question is, does he not know that Gwadar Port is no longer in the control of Pakistani government?
In order to give Balochistan government the operations of Gwadar port, Pakistani federal government will have to first cancel the lease granted to China?
The point is simple, to fulfill the demand of local leaders, China will have to pay the price.
Such demand should sound more trouble for Chinese king. More importantly, Pakistani army must seriously think, who decided on giving China 91% revenue of Gwadar Port.
if Gwadar doesn't earn money from its own port, from where its supposed to get money to fulfill the developmental needs of Gwadar people.
It appears, Gwadar is the future of Pakistan, but its not future of Balochistan.
As per latest IMF report, Though Pakistan is seeking 8 to 12 Billion Dollar bailout for three years, but it would need 46 to 50 Billion Dollars in next two years to remain afloat.
You see, for last 8 months, Pakistan was seeking IMF bailout, its like bargaining for band aid when you are suffering from cancer.
Even before Pakistan could get IMF bailout, its finance minister has lost his chair. Rather amusingly, Pakistani finance minister got idea about it during his chat on whatsapp from Pakistani prime minister.
It happens only in Pakistan that future of country is decided in chat on whatsapp.
Given such a great state of economy, its quite possible that Pakistan never dares to ask China to give back control of Gwadar port.
In this scenario, when local demand to take back control of Gwadar port is growing, China should have every reason to worry.
By giving loan to Pakistan, China has not bought Gwadar port, but it has bought Pain and trouble of Pakistan.
Last time, America tried to help Pakistan, you all know, whats the state of America right now.
Thankfully, China has not learnt anything from America, we wish them good luck to enjoy all weather friendship with Pakistan.
