For many years, older models of iphones have been produced in India. But from this year onward, newest models will be manufactured right here in India.
You know, new models sell more than older ones.
You might know, Taiwanese company Foxconn is major manufacturing partner of Apple iphone. Traditionally, these Iphones are assembled in China, But now as per Chairman of Foxconn, they have moved their production lines in India.
Though he didn't specify, from where he has moved production lines. But you know, what he obviously means.
While he made very positive remarks, but he perhaps committed a mistake, by saying that his company has planned expansion in India after getting invitation from current Indian Prime Minister.
If he had said that he wanted to move production lines in India only because he believes in the visionary leadership of a Royal Family, our media would have highlighted this as major achievement.
Anyways, we don't want to get into the politics behind the decision taken by Foxconn. What is rather important is that companies have started moving their production lines from China to India. More importantly, These lines will serve both local and export markets.
With local assembly of latest Iphones in India, Apple will be able to save custom duty taxes, and this may help Apple to sell its sophisticated models cheaper to price sensitive Indians.
In fact, cheaper labor in India will also help in reducing the price of Iphones in India.
The benefits of assembling in India are quite obvious and confirm that Apple and its manufacturers are ready to play very important role in Indian smartphone industry.
Please consider this, 26% of total Chinese global export is due to electrical machinery and equipment.
Until year 2013, Indian gold import used to be more than Indian import of Electronic items.
However, since then Indian import of electronic items has rapidly increased.
In the year 2018 alone, India imported gold worth 22 Billion Dollar, but import of electronic items was 45 Billion Dollars.
You can easily figure out, Cheap Chinese electronic equipment including smart phones are behind this huge surge in Indian import.
As we discussed, as long as China keeps making cheap goods, these will be able to naturally find their way to Indian market.
You know, high custom duty on Gold, only ended up increasing gold smuggling in last couple of years.
