Hello Friends, welcome to Real Quick Info channel, Please subscribe our channel, like and share this video, Lets discuss our Real Quick Analysis.
Yesterday, News Agency A N I published report fearing that Payra Shipping port of Bangladesh may fall into Chinese hands.
As expected, many of our newspapers have simply re-published this news feed from A N I to propagate the panic.
While you all are aware of Chinese string of pearls policy to in circle India. Does that mean, we should be foolish while responding to China?
If China is digging debt hole for itself, Should we loose sleep about it as well?
First of all, as per news report published by Times of India, back in February 2016, India expressed interest in building Payra seaport.
Afterwards, in December 2016, with the investment of 600 Million Dollars Two Chinese firms have entered into memorandum of understanding to develop two of the 19 components of Payra Deep sea port in Bangladesh.
However, as we speak, more than half of the work on this port is yet to be finished.
This phase of construction was supposed to end by the year 2020.
More importantly, average navigability at Payra port is not more than 4 meters. You know, for large ships, the navigability has to be at least 18 meters.
As a result, the river must be dredged all year round to keep the port operational.
Dredging cost makes, this port too expansive to profitably operate.
China has lot of money, it can continue to dredge the river, but does India have the resources?
When we have a number of port projects going on in India, why should we invest in such ports projects, which will be of limited use for small vessels.
The point is simple, if we have to invest money in other countries, we must not foolishly compete with China.
China can afford building infrastructural white elephants, but can we afford ??
The answer is clear No.
Now that, construction is going on with Chinese money, Officials in Bangladesh are getting nervous about China taking this port in to its own control similar to Sri Lankan and Pakistani ports.
However, Before port is operated for few years, its little premature to assume, that it will certainly make the losses and end up in Chinese control for next 99 years.
Incidentally, last month China has promised to invest 50 billion dollars in Bangladesh in Next 15 years .
Though We wish good luck to Bangladesh, yet We expect them to use their mind before entering into agreements with China. there is no point in regretting afterwards.
Lets be frank, Neither India, Nor any country other than China will be ready to take the ownership of these white elephants.
You may recall, though our media and our experts supported India taking over Hambantota airport to control rising Chinese influence at Hambantota Port.
yet India could not gather courage to put money on a ghost airport. Similarly, India should not put its money in the Bangladeshi port, when its channel is too sallow to let big ships arrive.
Our point is simple, Containing China in Indian ocean is duty of India as much as its for any other country sharing this region.
Therefore all should collaborate and use their mind before welcoming China in building such projects keeping in view next 100 years in mind.
Simply creating panic that a port may end up in Chinese hand, will not force India, America or Japan to throw money in the white elephant project in later phases.
You know, Protecting sovereignty is duty of every nation. there is enough knowledge available on Internet about Chinese debt trap diplomacy, hopefully all countries including Bangladesh will learn from it.
India and Bangladesh have good relationship, and India should be ready to help Bangladesh, wherever its possible.
But rewarding a friend for committing well known mistake will ensure that friend will commit the same mistake again and again.
Anyways, Being optimistic we should trust our Bangladeshi friends and hope that Payra port will turn into commercially profitable.
Our viewer form Bangladesh, Cupid has few times asked us to create a video on Bangladesh. Keeping him in view, we have made this video. We are thankful to him.
Today's easy question is, In which year, India had shown interest in the development of Payra port?
Please answer today's question in comment section below.
A number of our viewers, have correctly answered the easy question, which was asked in our last video. Today's lucky winner is Shashank Kumar.
