You might recall, In July 2016, In China Versus Philippines South China sea related case, International Tribunal had ruled in favor of Philippines.



Though Chinese historical claim over South China sea was rejected, yet cunning China refused to accept the adverse ruling.



Rather surprisingly, By the time international tribunal delivered order, The government in Philippines got changed.



New but foolish President of Philippines  wanted to re-orient ties with China.



Rather than building international pressure on china, he decided to quietly and directly negotiate with China to resolve south China sea dispute in between two nations.



Since last three years, he has been trying to maintain good relationship with China.



As you all know, There is huge difference in what China says, and what it does on the ground.



Consider Thitu Island in South China Sea, which has been occupied by Philippines since 1970.



China also claims this island as its own. For last couple of months, around 600 Chinese vessels have visited waters near Thitu island.



At any given point of time, at least 90 Chinese vessels are maintaining presence near island.



You might know, China maintains one of the largest maritime militia force containing civilian fishing vessels in the front, which are supported by Chinese Coast Guards from behind.



In simple words, Chinese maritime militia has basically swarmed Thitu  island of Philippines.



There are two possibilities, either China is planning to take this island in its control, or its just watching over it.



But in both the case, its obvious that government of Philippines is feeling threatened, and lodged protest against the presence of Chinese vessels in the waters of Thitu island.



In response, as reported by sweet talking Chinese media, Yesterday China and Philippines started negotiations and concluded fruitful negotiations.



But today President of Philippines has asked China to stay away from Thitu island.



Though he doesn't want to go to war with China, because it would be suicide.

Yet he is very clear, that soldiers of Philippines are deployed on Thitu island, and if Chinese maritime militia tries to touch it, his soldiers will be ready to fight, even if it will result in their suicide.



Interestingly, America and Philippines have mutual defense treaty, and last month American foreign secretary repeated, that America would come to defend Philippines, if it comes under the attack of China in South China Sea.



This perhaps explains, rather than  using P L A navy or coast guards, why China is using Maritime militia to exert pressure on Philippines.



China is not foolish to attack on Thitu island to invite full fledged war with United states.



Its sub conventional warfare. Pakistan is using its terrorists over land against Afghanistan and India.



China is using maritime militia to terrorize small countries in South china sea region, so that china can negotiate and achieve its strategic objective.



In return of going mute against Chinese claim on south China sea, China had promised 26 Billion dollar investments in infrastructure of Philippines.



Now, please consider this, as we speak now, out of 10 big project, only one project has cleared its preliminary stage of implementation.



Though there are fears of falling into Chinese debt trap, yet With Chinese money, Philippine will take many years to build profitable infrastructure.



sadly, the situation in south china sea has worsen for Philippines despite winning a case in the year 2016.



If President of Philippines had joined hands with global community at that time to pressure China to relinquish its claim over entire south China sea, Today he would not have been preparing his soldiers for Suicide mission on Thitu island against Chinese invasion.



These recent incidents in south china sea once again high light, any country which believes in Chinese words, will be disappointed by Chinese actions.



There is huge difference in between sweet Chinese words and bitter Chinese actions. Unfortunately, no body is ready to learn from the past.



You can see now, President of Philippines had to learn this easy concept in the hardest way.



Hopefully, India will also learn from these events and continue to take preventive steps. Else days are not far, when Chinese maritime militia will roam in Indian ocean as well.
