you all know, that China claims entire south China sea as its own. Our attention is normally focused on how China is expanding its influence across this natural resource rich sea.
Interestingly, In last December, Indonesia has inaugurated a new military base in Natuna island, which is located in disputed territory between Indonesia and China in the South China Sea.
Needless to say, China criticized this Indonesian move.
Needless to say, besides China, there are conflicting territorial claims among other neighbors of south China sea.
Interestingly, Last week when Indonesian navy was trying to seize an illegal Trawler, a Vietnamese coast guard boat rammed with the ship of Indonesian navy.
This incident happened in the area, which Indonesia considers as its Exclusive economic zone.
Though The practice of capturing the foreign vessels and sinking them started back in the year 2014, yet After recently concluded elections, Indonesian government has once again resumed sinking illegal fishing boats after a break of several months.
This Sunday, Indonesia sunk 51 foreign boats of Vietnam, Malaysia and China in order to send a message to stop illegal fishing in Indonesian waters.
Earlier Indonesia used to leverage fire power to destroy illegal fishing boats, now its simply filling water in these foreign boats to sink them.
Sinking foreign boats is kind of normal activity, but perhaps this is the first time when Indonesia has started sinking even Chinese ships.
Back in the year 2016, Indonesian navy has dared to capture Chinese fishing boat, which has been sailing in the exclusive economic zone of Indonesia off the Natuna island.
The point is, Indonesia has been always sensitive about its territorial claims in the waters near Natuna Island.
Still why Chinese ships are coming for fishing in this water?
Were these Chinese ships part of Chinese Maritime Militia. Pakistan gives berth to land based militants, China has created one of the largest maritime militia to project power in the sea.
You may recall, last month there were reports of Chinese maritime militia maintaining presence near Thitu island of Philippines.
Going beyond warnings, Philippines could not dare to capture Chinese ships and sink them.
Its important to recall, Last year, Indonesia sank 125 foreign fishing vessels, but none of them was from China.
It would be interesting to see, how China reacts to Indonesia sinking Chinese ships in Indonesian waters.
But it appears good that Indonesia is protecting its waters from illegal Chinese fishing activities.
No matter, how small a country you are, you should stand up to protect your land and waters.
