You all know that during Prime Minister Modi's first foreign visit in Maldives, 10 coastal surveillance radar systems have just been inaugurated.
its important to note here, that work on these coastal radars has resumed with full steam only in end of last April.
Before that only three other radars were functional. With 10 operational radars, Maldives will be able to protect its sovereignty in its Exclusive Economic zone.
Needless to say, with friendly regime in Maldives, Indian Navy and coast guards will be able to get quick information against any threat to our national security and sovereignty.
Important to recall here., India has been building similar network of coastal surveillance Radar system in other Indian Ocean nations like Seychelles, Mauritius and Sri Lanka.
Idea is simple, building a network of radars in the Indian ocean region, so that all countries can cooperate with each other to make this region safe and secure for all of us.
You all remember, Hostile to India Political uncertainty in Maldives ended only in September last year.
since then India and Maldives are building closer relationship with each other.
Important to remember here, Back in the year 2009, Maldives was afraid that one of its island resorts could be taken over by terrorists due to its lack of military assets and surveillance capabilities.
At that time, India signed an agreement to help Maldives set up radar on all 26 islands for seam less coverage of approaching vessels and air crafts.
This Coastal radar chain in Maldives was to be networked with Indian coastal radar system, so that both countries can cooperate with each other as soon as threat comes.
At that time, there were coastal radars on only two islands.
In last 9 years, India could install radar on only one more island. The credit for this tragic delay largely goes to Former Maldivian president Yameen, who was sitting in Chinese lap.
However, we must not forget that past Indian government also share some blame for delay because Yameen came into power only in the year 2013.
If India can set up 10 radars in two months, why it could not set these 10 radars in between 2009 and 2013, thats a question we must ask to ensure that we never commit such mistakes again.
What is surprising is, India friendly president Nasheed was ruling over Maldives in between 2008 and 2012, Still we could not finish this critically important project in three years.
We understand, There could be some genuine reasons for the delay.
That's why We are not blaming past government, all we are saying that we must implement such agreement as fast as possible to avoid changing government stopping the projects.
Anyways, better late than never, Now with 10 islands having coastal radar system, Maldives will have more capability to track terrorists and Chinese movement around.
China always says that its in Indian ocean to protect its commercial shipments from Pirates.
but China is perhaps only country in the world, which uses submarines in Indian ocean to fight against pirates.
You know, China has been lying.
Moreover, Rather than increasing its presence in Indian Ocean, who stopped China to build the capabilities of nations in the region to protect their own interests themselves, as India has been doing right now.
Anyways, you are all aware, after grabbing entire South China sea, China is eyeing to grab entire Indian ocean in the long term.
However, as long as All countries in the Indian ocean region collaborate with each other, China will not even dare to think about grabbing Indian ocean.
Together we stand against China, divided we all fall in front of China.
