You might know that trade talks have resumed in between America and India today.
Interestingly, just before the trade talks started, President Trump has twitted that Indian tariffs on american goods are not acceptable.
However US trade delegation has arrived in India with the focus on relationship building.
You all have noticed that President Trumps language on twitter has always been very aggressive, but In the meeting room, he seldom shows the same aggression.
Its normal pressure tactic to put a pressuring tweet, before US trade delegation could reach India to set the atmosphere in favor of American delegation.
In our media, President Trumps such tweets are always played out of proportion.
However, we recall words of former ISI chief Asad Duraani.
You might recall, the first tweet of President Trump on 1 January 2018 about Pakistan. To such tweets, Former ISI chief said that Pakistan need not take such tweets seriously.
Because Earlier American officials used to be harsh and President used to be mild in conversation.
but now President Trump is harsh and American officials are mild.
You can see in Afghanistan, despite such harsh Trump tweets, now America is banking on Pakistan to bring peace in Afghanistan.
Needless to say, Pakistan is being rewarded as well.
The point President Trump has taught us is simple, we need not take his tweets seriously and we should hold the ground in the trade negotiation with America.
President Trump is looking for Free and Fair trade deal for America, but we should not accept Free but unfair deal for India.
You know, President Trump focuses on Indian high tariffs on Harley bikes. Some Indian experts have often suggested that India should put zero tariffs on Harley bikes.
But these experts miss the bigger picture, President Trump uses Harley as simple example to teach Americans about how he is fighting with India and winning.
Needless to say, Even if India puts zero tariffs on Harley, trade friction will continue to remain in between India and America.
Major cause of disagreement in between two countries is related to data localization, new norms of E commerce and agricultural and dairy products.
in fact, before the Indian general election, limited trade pact was getting ready covering Harley bikes, Data and E commerce.
But in order to gain more, America issued threat to remove 3000 Indian products from duty free entry in American market.
Needless to say, threats will never work on India. As soon as Modi government won second term, America acted on its threat. In response, India retaliated with the tariffs on 28 US products.
Now, again India and america are talking. Hopefully, better sense will prevail on both countries to strike a free and fair trade deal in between two countries.
We all have supported free and fair trade deal with America. but Fair trade deal with America will never be accepted if its unfair to India.
